Katy Perry faced backlash for her ostentatious 11-minute trip into space, along with fellow "astronauts" including CBS host Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez (fiancée of Blue Origin CEO Jeff Bezos), activist Amanda Nguyen, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Podcast host Joe Rogan was sarcastic - calling the trip "very profound" and quipping: "I don't know if you've seen Katy Perry talk about this trip, but she's basically a guru now."

Meanwhile, musician Trace Cyrus wrote in a lengthy Instagram post after the Blue Origin flight: "The first time I realized how bad Katy Perry and her team were was when her career was fading."
Katy Perry is the most unpopular artist in pop music right now - ahead of her first global tour in eight years, The Lifetimes Tour , which kicked off in Mexico City last week.
Previously, her 2024 album 143 debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200, but disappeared from the chart less than a month later.
Katy Perry was ridiculed for using her 3 minutes of weightlessness in space to promote the setlist of The Lifetimes Tour.
It's a far cry from Perry's explosive emergence onto the music scene in the early 2000s, and her subsequent chart dominance. Her third studio album, 2010's Teenage Dream , was the first album to yield five number-one singles by a female artist, with hits like California Gurls (featuring Snoop Dogg), Firework , E.T. , Last Friday Night ...
But Perry's press has been increasingly critical since last fall, when her seventh studio album, 143, was released to lukewarm reviews. The lead single, Woman's World, was seen by some as white feminism, and it may not have helped that she collaborated with songwriter/producer Dr. Luke — who is currently in the midst of a defamation lawsuit with Kesha over rape allegations that he has denied.
Katy Perry is "cursed"?
Some online pundits have even suggested that Perry's downfall was the result of a nun's "curse."
The singer has been embroiled in a real estate battle over a Los Angeles convent for years. And when Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, on her way to court in 2018, told reporters: "To Katy Perry, stop. It doesn't do anybody any good except hurt a lot of people." She died at the scene a few hours later.

Adding to the public relations woes, Katy Perry was criticized earlier this year by the family of a veteran who said the veteran was not aware when he sold his Montecito, California, estate to Perry and her longtime partner Orlando Bloom. A lengthy court case ruled in Perry and Bloom's favor in 2023.
“What I’m concerned about now is that she’s become a female artist who can be criticized. Her last album, 143 , was mediocre, the reviews were negative, mean, vitriolic. The music isn’t that bad. So why?” pop critic Ken Tucker told The Post . Tucker believes that part of the criticism stems from Perry trying too hard to stand out and stay in the spotlight.
After brief flings with celebrities like John Mayer and Josh Groban and an unhappy marriage to Brand, Perry seemed to have settled into family life with Bloom. The two met at the 2016 Golden Globes and briefly split the following year, but then got back together and Bloom proposed to her in 2019.
Although Perry has always kept her personal life private, a source says she's happier than ever. "She wouldn't rule out bringing Daisy or Orlando on stage. This tour is about love, and they're a huge part of that story," an insider said.
“Katy Perry was huge 15 years ago. Now her name never comes up on my desk. That happens to a lot of artists. They have their moment and it passes. It seems like it’s been a long time since she and Taylor were considered rivals on the same playing field,” a veteran music industry insider told The Post . “Nowadays, artists like Billie Eilish are taken seriously, but that’s not Katy Perry.”
