Tourists increase sharply during Tet Giap Thin

During the seven-day Tet holiday from February 8 to 14, the tourism industry is estimated to welcome 10.5 million domestic visitors, up nearly 17% over the same period in 2023. About 3.5 million of these are overnight guests, up 75%. Average room occupancy is estimated at 45-50%, up slightly from 40-45% last year, according to the National Tourism Administration.

The increase in the number of visitors has led to an increase in tourism revenue compared to the same period last year. Provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , and Da Nang all achieved revenue of thousands of billions of VND. Of which, Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to reach 6,550 billion VND, Hanoi reaches 2,350 billion VND and Da Nang reaches 1,580 billion VND.

Other localities also achieved high revenue compared to last year such as Kien Giang with nearly 930 billion VND, Khanh Hoa with nearly 880 billion VND, Ninh Binh with 850 billion VND, Thanh Hoa with nearly 600 billion VND, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau with 410 billion VND.

In terms of visitors, Ho Chi Minh City leads with about 1.8 million visitors, up nearly 6%. Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang and Thanh Hoa provinces increased from 50% to 64%. Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang and Kien Giang increased from 21 to 26% compared to last year.

The Lunar New Year also recorded a high increase in the number of international visitors in many localities compared to Tet 2023 such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Kien Giang, Lam Dong, Ninh Binh. Kien Giang recorded the highest increase with more than 44,000 arrivals, nearly 6 times higher than the same period, followed by Ninh Binh with more than 115,000 arrivals, nearly 4 times higher.

The Department of Tourism assessed that the number of international visitors to Vietnam increased compared to the same period last year thanks to the effect of favorable visa policies, the right direction in restructuring the tourist market, and the efforts of businesses and localities.

Favorable weather during the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday has helped tourism activities take place vibrantly across the country. This year, tourists tend to choose famous heritage, spiritual and cultural destinations. Destinations in the northern mountainous region also attract many visitors thanks to the blooming plum, apricot and wild peach blossoms. The trend of independent travel, small groups, families, and self-booking services at destinations has increased, especially in destinations close to the markets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Many destinations are packed with visitors such as Hanoi, Tam Chuc, Trang An, Sa Pa, Da Nang, Hoi An, Da Lat, and Ho Chi Minh City thanks to organizing special themes, creating excitement for tourists on the first day of the new year.

Localities with international seaports have organized to welcome cruise tourists during the bustling Tet holiday. Positive signals from cruise tourism show a year of recovery with many improvements for this important international tourist stream, including visitors from the traditional Chinese market.

Tourism activities in the first days of the new year were also assessed to have gone smoothly, with almost no congestion or overload at destinations. Security and order were stable, price posting and selling at the right price were controlled, with few cases of overcharging.
