The Hanoi Traffic Management and Operation Center said that in order to improve service quality and facilitate passengers, the city will deploy a multi-modal interconnected ticket for the public passenger transport system, expected from September 2025.

Accordingly, passengers can use a single card to travel on many different means of public transport, including buses and urban railways. This is a step to encourage people to use public transport, contributing to reducing personal vehicles and limiting traffic congestion.

According to the Center's analysis, passengers using interconnecting tickets (including buses and urban railways) will enjoy more preferential prices.

Specifically, 40% discount compared to the total cost of purchasing a single-mode ticket (if using the bus and 2 urban railway lines). 10% discount if using the bus and 1 urban railway line; additional incentives when purchasing a long-term monthly ticket.

According to the reporter's research, the current monthly ticket for inter-route buses is 280,000 VND/month. The monthly ticket for urban railway route 2A (from August 1) is 280,000 VND/month. The monthly ticket for route 3.1 (from August 1) is 280,000 VND/month. In total, if purchased separately, passengers will have to pay 840,000 VND/month. When applying the multi-modal inter-route ticket, passengers using 1 urban railway route + bus, the ticket price is only 500,000 VND/month. Passengers using 2 urban railway routes + bus still only pay 500,000 VND/month, a reduction of up to 40%.

In addition, customers using daily tickets (bus + urban railway) 50,000 VND/day. Weekly tickets: 200,000 VND/week

For single-mode bus tickets, the new plan adds a daily ticket of 30,000 VND/day; Weekly ticket: 120,000 VND/week. Discount when buying long-term tickets from 2-12 months, the discount is from 3.5 - 6%.

To ensure fairness and closeness to actual travel, bus tickets will be calculated based on distance instead of applying the current flat rate. Accordingly, passengers will pay from 4,350 - 32,000 VND, corresponding to a distance of 3 - 64km.

In the first phase, the multimodal intermodal ticket will be applied to subsidized public transport such as buses and urban railways. In the future, Hanoi will continue to study and expand the application to other types such as public bicycles, taxis, etc. and organizations and individuals related to passenger transport activities.
