Opening of the Festival honoring the specialty of Wax Coconut, which is 100 years old and has been associated with Tra Vinh

On the evening of August 25, the 100th Anniversary of Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Festival officially opened. Representatives of 31 consulates, provinces and cities in the region, hundreds of businesses and people attended.

With the theme “Flavor of the Land of Happiness”, the opening program featured many unique art performances recreating the formation and development process of wax coconut trees in Tra Vinh; honoring the role and image of farmers associated with wax coconut trees and the economic achievements that this specialty tree brings.

The 100-year Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Festival aims to honor and promote the brand and values of wax coconut trees; attract people to participate in promoting the values, brands and efforts to bring products processed from wax coconut to world markets; connect supply and demand... contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality and truly becoming a typical event of the whole country in the coming time.

Mr. Duong Hoang Sum, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province said: “Through the festival activities, we want to introduce the image of Tra Vinh people; connect supply and demand as well as the potential for tourism development, socio-economic development of the province to domestic and international friends. This activity also aims to demonstrate the solidarity of ethnic minorities in Cau Ke land in particular and Tra Vinh in general in the conditions of preserving and promoting the values of coconut trees as well as expanding the planting area and caring for existing coconut areas in the province”.

Nearly 100 years of "destiny" with Cau Ke land ( Tra Vinh ), up to now the wax coconut area has increased to nearly 780 hectares, the annual output reaches over 3 million fruits and is the main source of income for nearly 2,600 local households. Wax coconut was ranked in the Top 50 most famous fruit specialties of Vietnam in 2016.
