The exhibition "Dinh Phong Painting and Sculpture" introduces 31 paintings and sculptures, taking place from November 30 to December 14, by curator Vu Huy Thong with the artistic advice of sculptor Dao Chau Hai.
Born in Hanoi and successfully established in Ho Chi Minh City, Dinh Phong has had a passion for fine arts since a very early age. It was only in the last 5 years that he truly devoted himself to painting and sculpture - a path that he trained himself through watching, reading, experiencing and learning from previous artists.

Before this exhibition, Dinh Phong introduced his works in a joint exhibition with sculptor Dao Chau Hai (Vietnam University of Fine Arts, 2022) and three solo exhibitions: "Flying Man and Surreal Dream" (Hanoi, 2020), "Surreal Dream" ( Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, 2021), "Dinh Phong Painting-Sculpture" (Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, 2025).
Researcher Vu Huy Thong said that the world has had many self-taught artists who became great names, but Dinh Phong's case brought him a special surprise. Because Dinh Phong's creations almost do not follow any familiar logic of painting and sculpture.

For a classically trained artist, the principles of form are both a foundation and a limit. But Dinh Phong, who relies on instinct and intuition, steps straight out of those conventions to find his own language. This break is not reckless but the result of a torn inner journey.
In this exhibition, iron and steel become as soft as silk, stainless steel shines as water, metal is as deep as earth... The pieces of metal are cut, ground, bent, oxidized, impacted, layered... seem to be telling the story of time, strength and the spirit of the artist.

Artist Thanh Chuong could not hide his surprise and delight when standing in front of the works. He shared: "I looked very carefully and was extremely interested. There were works that moved me. Dinh Phong is one of the rare artists who created truly new things for Vietnamese fine arts. I had to touch and observe carefully to see what they were. Seeing that they were steel plates, corrugated iron sheets, steel mesh... opened up a lot of thoughts for me about materials."
If the emotion of the researcher and colleagues is surprise, then for artist Dinh Phong himself, this exhibition is the result of a journey of both creativity and overcoming deadlock. The artist shared: "I started painting 5 years ago. In the previous three exhibitions, I only used oil or acrylic paint. But when I kept working with the same material and motif, I no longer felt interested. I was stuck. Even mentally broken, because I couldn't find a way to express anything new."

In that impasse, he turned to observe the material world around him and that experiment brought a new source of energy, which the artist explained: "Finding new materials is like being lost in a dark forest and suddenly seeing light. Or like being adrift in the middle of the sea, the boat is sinking and then grabbing a life buoy. I am extremely happy."
However, creating with metal is not a smooth road, Dinh Phong himself also commented: "It is extremely hard and heavy labor. You have to concentrate highly and have good health. I worked until my fingerprints wore out to create these works."
Dinh Phong goes from pure physical labor and intuition to create a unique visual language, strong, rough but rich in poetry. For artists, art can come from anything - as long as it carries the unique voice of the creator.
