During their tour in Australia, Newcastle shocked the world by fielding a squad of unknown young players and losing 0-8 to the A-League All Stars in front of 53,000 spectators at Marvel Stadium on the evening of May 24.

After the match, Newcastle received heavy criticism from the media and on social media. Many spectators condemned Newcastle for “disrespecting the fans” and demanded refunds for tickets.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle’s tour of Australia has created a ticket fever. Some tickets are even priced at £700 on the black market. Australian audiences are willing to pay a lot to see a famous team in the Premier League play. Therefore, Newcastle’s use of a youth team and superficial performance is no different from a “trick”.

Before losing 8-0 to the A-League All Stars, Newcastle played a friendly against Tottenham as part of their tour of Australia on May 22. The two Premier League teams used a lineup that included famous players and drew 1-1 in regular time. Newcastle then beat Tottenham 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

Most of Newcastle's stars quietly left after the Tottenham game, with only Lewis Hall, Elliot Anderson and Kieran Trippier remaining in Australia, but not involved in the 8-0 defeat to the A-League All Stars.
