Gradually making English the second language in schools is one of the key tasks set forth by the Politburo in Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW, which clearly states: "Focus on improving foreign language skills of students, gradually making English the second language in schools...".
After the Politburo issued Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW, the Ministry of Education and Training coordinated with the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to organize a workshop to discuss solutions to achieve the above goals.
At this workshop, the Ministry of Education and Training advised and proposed the Government to develop a national project with specific contents, including goals and implementation roadmap.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that recently, units under the Ministry have been actively developing a draft project to gradually introduce English as a second language in schools in the period 2025-2035, with a vision to 2045, initially seeking consultation from all parties.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, at the meeting of the Editorial Board and subcommittees to develop the Project to gradually introduce English as the second language in schools in the period of 2025 - 2035, with a vision to 2045 on the afternoon of April 10, said that although "step by step", it is necessary to quickly implement the Project, especially in the context of the country entering an era of development, the role of foreign languages is very important for deep integration. "The spirit of urgent and serious implementation, although the time is short, must be done methodically" - the Deputy Minister emphasized.
