Affirming the position and role of young people

The dramatic transformation of Da Nang after the merger presents an opportunity for the city's youth to innovate and contribute to building a civilized, modern, and developed city.

In Tam Anh commune, this year's summer activities are even more vibrant with the organization of the first ever summer camp, "Tam Anh - Striving Towards the Future." Compared to previous years, this camp has increased in scale threefold.

According to Mr. Huynh Minh Phat, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tam Anh commune and Secretary of the Youth Union of the commune, after the merger, the number of youth union members in the area increased significantly, with more than 1,119 youth union members (equivalent to the size of a mountainous district in Quang Nam province in the past).

However, the differences in operating methods between the merged (former) commune youth union branches have led to considerable confusion in the management and organization of activities at the commune level.

"The successful organization of the camp has contributed to connecting the Youth Union organizations and young members after the merger. This is the basis for the Youth Union to continue improving its structure and personnel in the future," said Mr. Phat.

According to Le Kim Thuong, Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang City Youth Union and Head of the Youth Union and Youth Affairs Committee, similar to Tam Anh commune, in many other localities, the Youth Union has carried out activities to launch, consolidate the organization, and unite and gather young union members after the merger.

According to statistics, from July 1st to the present, youth union branches at all levels throughout the city have organized nearly 500 activities in response to the 2025 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign. This is an impressive number, showing that the grassroots youth union organizations are adapting well after the merger and are experiencing many positive changes.

However, abolishing the district level meant that the City Youth Union had to directly manage a large number of grassroots units with very different scales and characteristics, leading to initial confusion and a reactive approach.

In addition, the shortage of key positions and the situation of officials holding too many additional responsibilities also affect the ability to unite and manage at the grassroots level…

“The difficulties that the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Da Nang City is facing are inevitable during this period of historical transformation. However, it is precisely in these challenges that the role and resilience of the organization are further affirmed. With determination, creativity, and innovative thinking, the Youth Union is gradually overcoming obstacles, creating a solid foundation for long-term development,” Mr. Thuong observed.

Mr. Le Cong Hung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city and Secretary of the City Youth Union, emphasized that the top priority in overcoming difficulties is to streamline the organizational structure and improve the capacity of officials.

The City Youth Union is reviewing and consolidating key positions at grassroots units to ensure the stable operation of the organizational structure.

Preparing personnel for the Youth Union Congress at all levels; and simultaneously opening training courses with innovation, focusing on in-depth training in leadership skills, political thinking, and digital technology.

In this way, Youth Union officials will be fully equipped with the courage and intelligence to adapt to any changes and be more confident in their roles.

Currently, the City Youth Union has revised the organizational structure on the membership management software of communes and wards to suit the new organizational structure after the merger. The City Youth Union continues to promote the digitization of membership data and utilize online platforms for guidance and management.

"This not only facilitates the smooth transmission of information but also creates a two-way interactive channel, helping Youth Union leaders to promptly understand the thoughts and aspirations of Youth Union members and officials at all levels. From there, we can resolve difficulties and affirm the position and role of young people," Hung mentioned.
