Many businesses are facing labor shortages, particularly in manufacturing, technology, logistics, and footwear and garment industries.
Despite offering many attractive benefits, it's still difficult to recruit workers.
These days, in many industrial zones in Dong Nai, the sight of numerous recruitment posters hanging in front of factory gates has become commonplace. From electronics component manufacturers, textile and garment factories, footwear factories to wood processing plants, all are facing labor shortages. Despite continuously expanding recruitment with many preferential policies, many businesses are still struggling to find suitable candidates.
Despite continuously recruiting workers through various methods since the beginning of 2026, Elite Long Thanh Co., Ltd. (Long Thanh Ward) still faces a labor shortage for production. Currently, the company needs to recruit approximately 1,000 garment workers. Ms. Van Thi Hien, a human resources employee of the company, said: The company has switched from traditional recruitment methods to live streaming recruitment directly on the company's Facebook page. With this method, workers can directly see job positions, policies, and submit applications to start working immediately. The company has a program where those who refer skilled garment workers will receive a reward of 5.5 million VND, and those who refer unskilled garment workers will receive a reward of 4 million VND.
To address the human resource challenge, many businesses in Dong Nai are proactively changing their recruitment and labor management strategies. Some businesses are investing in building dormitories and community living areas to create a stable living environment for workers from other provinces. This is a way to retain talent for the sustainable development of the business.
Meanwhile, Goodwood Vietnam Co., Ltd. (100% foreign-invested, specializing in the production of kitchen cabinets and furniture in Chơn Thành ward) is also continuously recruiting general and technical workers. For workers from distant areas, the company assists in finding accommodation and provides a subsidy of 800,000 VND per person in the first month of employment; it also supports travel expenses to the company. The company also offers a policy of providing technical bonuses ranging from 500,000 to 6,000,000 VND per person per month in addition to the fixed salary. Despite offering many benefits, this company has still not recruited enough personnel to meet production needs.
The leather shoe manufacturing sector is also continuously recruiting workers. For example, Hwaseung Vina Co., Ltd. (Nhon Trach 1 Industrial Park, Nhon Trach Ward) needs to recruit 1,000 unskilled workers with an income of 6.7-10 million VND/person/month. According to Nguyen Dac Vinh, Deputy Head of Human Resources at the company: To meet the workforce demand, the company is coordinating with the Phuoc An Commune Public Administrative Service Center to organize interviews and recruitment sessions locally; they are also distributing leaflets detailing job positions so that workers, especially unemployed workers, can find suitable jobs and return to the labor market as soon as possible.
Solutions for attracting and retaining employees
Clearly, with recovering orders and a surge in production expansion, the human resources issue is becoming a major pressure on the business community. Recent job fairs show that many businesses both within and outside the city are participating to recruit personnel. Sectors such as electronics, textiles, food processing, e-commerce, and information technology all have high recruitment needs to meet orders and expand production.
However, contrary to the increasing demand for recruitment, there is a significant shortage of labor. Many businesses need to hire hundreds to thousands of workers, but the number of applications received is very limited. This is not limited to the manufacturing sector; logistics, e-commerce, and industrial support services businesses are also fiercely competing for personnel. In particular, highly skilled workers, those with technical expertise, or those fluent in foreign languages are quite rare in the market.
In addition to a shortage of unskilled labor, many businesses in Dong Nai face the more challenging problem of lacking high-quality human resources. The development of technology, automation, and digital transformation has led to a surge in demand for mechanical engineers, electrical and electronic engineers, automated machine operators, and production management specialists. However, the supply of qualified personnel has not kept pace with this demand.
According to businesses, the labor shortage is not simply due to the number of workers, but stems from a change in workers' job preferences. While previously many workers prioritized stable, long-term employment, they now opt for more flexible environments, better income, and more opportunities for personal development. Many are shifting to freelance work, online business, ride-hailing services, or considering changing jobs to return to their hometowns.
According to Nguyen Van Canh, Director of the Dong Nai Employment Service Center, the demand for recruitment in Dong Nai province in the second quarter of 2026 is expected to reach nearly 7,000 workers. To improve the effectiveness of job placement, the center has implemented many comprehensive solutions to expand access to recruitment information. Currently, the employment support network has been widely implemented throughout the city through a system of collaborators.
“The center also strengthens coordination with schools and vocational education institutions to build job information corners and regularly update the recruitment needs of businesses. Through this, students have the opportunity to access the labor market while still in school; and at the same time, have clearer career orientations to proactively seek suitable jobs after graduation. In addition, it proactively connects businesses and workers, contributing to meeting the supply and demand of labor in the future.”
Clearly, in an increasingly competitive job market, to retain and attract talent, businesses cannot rely solely on salary but need to build a stable, professional work environment with long-term development opportunities for employees. A positive work environment that respects employees and has a clear corporate culture will be highly attractive to personnel, especially young workers.
