Ribbon cutting ceremony for the inauguration of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Hospital in Xiengkhouang province.
On the morning of May 17, the inauguration ceremony and putting into use of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Hospital project in Xiangkhouang province took place.
This is the largest ever medical infrastructure development project of Vietnam in Northern Laos, invested in and constructed from non-refundable aid capital from the Vietnamese Government to the Lao Government and people.
Attending from Vietnam were Consulate General of Vietnam in Luang Prabang province, Northern Laos, Ms. Kieu Thi Hoang Phuc; Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung; Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment , Permanent Vice Chairman of Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee Tran Quoc Phuong.
On the Lao side, there were Mr. Bounchan Sivongphan, Secretary and Governor of Xiangkhouang Province; leaders of the Ministry of Health , Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee, along with many relevant departments and agencies of the two countries.
Built on a 2.5-hectare land area, the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Hospital Project in Xiangkhouang Province is one of the key projects that the senior leaders of the two Parties and States pay special attention to and closely direct to complete and put into operation in compliance with the regulations of the health sectors of the two countries.
This project is implemented from non-refundable aid from the Vietnamese Government to the Lao Government with a total investment of nearly 500 billion VND, built according to current standards and regulations of Vietnam and suitable to the needs of Laos.
With a scale of 200 hospital beds and modern facilities and equipment serving the medical examination and treatment of the people of Xiangkhouang province and a training program for Lao doctors and nurses at the hospital, the project aims to meet the health care needs of the people of Xiangkhouang province in general and the people of the northeastern provinces of Laos in particular.
In an interview with reporters, Lao Deputy Minister of Health Snong Thongsna emphasized that the construction and operation of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Hospital in Xiangkhouang Province will greatly contribute to the development of Laos' health sector, because this is not only the first modern hospital with 200 beds in the region, fully equipped with modern medical examination and treatment equipment, but also receives support from the Vietnamese Government and Nghe An Province to build and train human resources for sustainable development.
He emphasized that this support from the Vietnamese Government will help Xiangkhouang province have a modern medical facility, not only helping to meet the medical needs of local people but also achieving the development goals of the Lao health sector.
Speaking at the event, Vice Governor of Xiangkhouang Province, Mr. Sivilay Sengchaleun, said that as a poor province heavily affected by war, Xiangkhouang Province's medical infrastructure, including equipment at the provincial hospital, is currently very poor and does not meet the needs of the people, forcing people to often go to higher levels or abroad for treatment, causing costs and increasing the cost of medical treatment for the people. Therefore, the inauguration and putting into use of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Hospital in Xiangkhouang Province will bring great benefits to local people and neighboring provinces...
In his speech when receiving the project, Mr. Viengsavanh Vilayphone, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee, expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, who, despite facing many economic difficulties, have wholeheartedly provided timely assistance to the Lao people in the spirit of brotherhood "A grain of rice is bitten in half, a piece of vegetable is broken in half;" affirming that the project is a clear demonstration of the tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance between Vietnam and Laos.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong congratulated the Lao Ministry of Health, Xiangkhouang Provincial Government and the Lao people for inaugurating and putting into operation a large-scale hospital with modern medical equipment, which is of great significance in meeting the needs of medical examination, treatment and health care for the people, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Propose that the People's Committee of Nghe An province direct functional units to continue to closely coordinate with functional agencies of Laos and Xiangkhouang province to effectively carry out maintenance, warranty, operation, and training work within the framework of the project committed to Xiangkhouang province.
With an investment of over 21 million USD, the Vietnamese Government's allocation of a large sum of money to help Laos build the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Hospital in Xiangkhouang Province demonstrates the concern of the Party, Government and people of Vietnam in enhancing healthcare for the Lao people; at the same time, it demonstrates the determination of the two Governments and the two Cooperation Committees in promoting the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Strategy in Xiangkhouang and Houaphanh provinces./.
