A recent survey by Jiji Press found that about 30% of major Japanese companies are using or planning to use artificial intelligence (AI) in the recruitment process.

The survey was conducted from mid-February to mid-March 2025. Of the 100 large companies that participated in the survey, eight said they would use AI in their graduate recruitment process by spring 2026, while 21 had already implemented AI in this activity.

Survey results show that Japanese companies are looking to AI as a solution to improve recruitment efficiency amid increasingly fierce competition for human resources.

Japan's leading food and beverage maker Kirin Holdings has begun using AI to conduct first-round interviews for graduates next spring. This type of interview allows candidates to interact with AI online.

According to Kirin Holdings, AI interviews help eliminate personal bias and ensure fair and accurate assessments. Fujitsu has also used AI to screen candidate profiles.

However, the survey also found that 56 companies have no plans to apply AI to the recruitment process. Restaurant chain operator Zensho Holdings said that evaluating candidates through direct communication is very important, while Nippon Paper Industries expressed concerns about the ability to collect information and the accuracy of AI./.
