Young city aspirations

BBK- Ten years ago, in 2015, Bac Kan city was officially established. Although still young, the city has affirmed its role as the political, economic, cultural and social center of the province. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its establishment, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), is an opportunity for the city to proudly look back on the past journey, continuing to nurture the aspiration to rise in the new development stage.

Achievements come from dedication and solidarity

Since its early days of establishment, Bac Kan city has clearly defined its role as not only the administrative center of the province, but also the driving force for development spreading to other localities. With an area of ​​over 132km² and a population of over 47,000 people, the city has built and implemented a comprehensive and synchronous development strategy in many fields.

During the 2020-2025 term, the city's economic structure has shifted in a positive direction, with trade - services - tourism and industry gradually playing a leading role. The total state budget revenue during this period reached more than 829 billion VND, an increase of nearly 32% compared to the previous period. Many important projects have been implemented such as: Song Cau Walking Street, Huyen Tung Industrial Cluster with a total investment of nearly 600 billion VND, Nam Cat Lake Eco-tourism Area, Cau River upstream cultural - tourism space..., contributing to creating a new look for the city, expanding living, working and production space for people.

Along with that, the city invested more than 1,100 billion VND in essential infrastructure systems such as transportation, drainage, schools, medical stations, etc., to create a civilized and modern urban area while still preserving local cultural identity.

The education sector has received investment attention with a total budget of over 738 billion VND, of which 143 billion VND is for facilities. The school network is arranged reasonably, most of the schools meet national standards. The city's health sector has also recorded many positive changes, especially in disease prevention and control and primary health care for the people. The rate of people participating in health insurance reached 92%, 100% of commune health stations met national standards.

In 2020, Bac Kan became the first district-level unit in the province to complete the task of building new rural areas and is currently continuing to build advanced models in Duong Quang and Nong Thuong communes. Movements to build cultural life have been widely implemented, the rate of cultural households always exceeds the plan.

The Party Committee of Bac Kan City always focuses on maintaining principles and discipline, promoting the pioneering and exemplary role of cadres and party members. During the 2020-2025 term, up to now, the city has admitted 357 more party members, bringing the total number of party members of the entire Party Committee to 4,690 comrades. Party building work has been comprehensively implemented in terms of politics, ideology, ethics, organization and cadres.

The inspection, supervision and anti-corruption activities were carried out seriously, along with the "Skilled Mass Mobilization" movement and the building of a self-management model, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party organization and the local political system.

A decade - a new spirit - a new journey

Ten years is not a long journey, but with what has been achieved, Bac Kan has the right to be proud. Despite facing many difficulties such as epidemics, natural disasters, limited resources, or challenges in production models and industry structures, the city has always been resilient and proactive in overcoming thanks to consensus and a spirit of unceasing development aspirations.

Resolution No. 29-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Standing Committee clearly defined the role of Bac Kan city in the coming period - not only as the current nucleus, but also as the driving force for the central development of the province's future.

According to the Central Government's policy of administrative unit arrangement, in the coming time, Bac Kan city will no longer exist as a city-level administrative unit. It is expected that the city will be rearranged into 02 wards.

However, despite the change in administrative units, the spirit, achievements and mettle of the “young city” remain intact. That is the valuable foundation for localities to inherit and continue to develop. Roads, constructions, social security policies or staff trained through each stage are all important materials to create the future of a more dynamic, modern and humane administrative unit.

That aspiration – the aspiration of a young city will not stop at the age of 10. It will continue to spread, nurturing the spirit of innovation, creativity and perseverance of the people of Bac Kan in the journey of development for an increasingly better life for the people./.
