Nam Sach OCOP products 'tell stories'

The 'One Commune One Product' (OCOP) program in Nam Sach district (Hai Duong) has 'told' unique stories associated with culture, agriculture and people.

Preserving traditional culture

Currently, there are not many OCOP products on culture and tourism in Hai Duong , only a few localities have them, of which Nam Sach district alone has 2 4-star products: Tram Gian Pagoda (An Binh commune) and Luong Quoc Trang Nguyen Mac Dinh Chi Temple (Nam Tan commune). Both of these addresses have been recognized as national historical and cultural relics and provincial-level tourist destinations.

Nam Sach is famous as the land of mandarins in the East and Long Dong temple is one of the places that mark that precious tradition. The temple with ancient architecture is located on the land of Long Dong village, Nam Tan commune - the hometown of the Two-nation champion Mac Dinh Chi. This place worships the three leading mandarin scholars of Vietnam, in addition to the Two-nation champion Mac Dinh Chi (1272 - 1346), there are also the top scholar Mac Hien Tich and Doctor Mac Kien Quan (younger brother of the First Champion Mac Hien Tich). Long Dong temple also worships the heroic martyr Mac Thi Buoi who heroically sacrificed herself on April 23, 1951 in the resistance war against French colonialism.

Since the festival was held at the district level in 2023, the Long Dong temple relic complex has become a spiritual destination attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. This place is honoring the value of knowledge, the tradition of studiousness and academic achievement of the homeland; fostering the will to rise up, encouraging the young generation to strive to study, continue to contribute and grow up in the new era.

Similarly, the 4-star OCOP product Tram Gian Pagoda in An Dong village, An Binh commune also preserves many cultural values ​​in the lives of local people. The pagoda was formed about 1,000 years ago, and was once a large pagoda, a Buddhist center of the whole country, a Buddhist school for thousands of Buddhists. To this day, the pagoda still retains its unique architecture and many valuable antiques.

"Sifting out the muddy and bringing out the clear" builds reputation

His family has a tradition of making rice wine, so Mr. Tran Dinh Hieu (born in 1975) in Nam Sach town has been involved in the profession since a very early age. Mr. Hieu has always been concerned and determined to improve this product.

Mr. Hieu tried to “filter the muddy, bring out the clear”, went abroad to learn more new recipes to combine with the “heavenly pearl” of his hometown Nam Sach, creating a famous delicious wine - Hop village wine. This product has now been recognized as a 4-star OCOP, trusted by many consumers in and outside the province.

Thanks to his constant efforts to research and innovate, Mr. Tran Dinh Hieu has created a delicious 4-star OCOP product, Hop village wine.

“After a period of not producing, I returned to the profession in 2016. At that time, many people in my hometown had quit the profession, while the market had many products of unknown origin and poor quality. I thought that we had to preserve the village's profession, and make good products so as not to affect the health of consumers. The ingredients I used were good rice in the district, quality medicinal yeast, and the wine was carefully checked before being sold,” Hieu shared.

As the owner of one of the two largest egg-laying chicken farms in Nam Sach district, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan (born in 1963) in Chi Doan village, Cong Hoa commune said that his farm currently raises about 22,000 egg-laying chickens and 12,000 breeding chickens. The farm produces nearly 20,000 eggs per day. Mr. Tuan's egg products will achieve 3-star OCOP in 2023.

Chicken eggs are purchased by agents in and outside the province and are a trusted ingredient in many school kitchens. Understanding the importance of producing clean food, Mr. Tuan has built a scientific chicken farming process to ensure quality.

“My farm follows a closed, safe process. My point of view is that no matter how much or how little the product is made, quality must be the most important thing,” said Mr. Tuan.

After about 5 years of implementing the OCOP Program, by early 2025, Nam Sach district had 56 products achieving OCOP star ratings, of which 5 products were proposed for recognition as 5 stars, 15 products as 4 stars and 36 products as 3 stars. In addition, dozens of products of potential enterprises, cooperatives and business households are being focused on completing the process, reviewing and evaluating OCOP product classification. Nam Sach is also one of the few localities in the whole province where all communes and towns have OCOP products.

Just like Hop Village Wine or Dinh Tuan Chicken Eggs, Nam Sach OCOP products are all "filtered" by the subjects from tradition, experience, and business ethics to bring quality products to consumers.
