Expanding scale, adding new products
Thien Tam Medicinal Herbs Cooperative, Tan Hiep Commune (Yen The) is one of the typical units implementing the OCOP program effectively. The cooperative was established in 2019 with 15 official members and 20 households associated to grow medicinal herbs and do simple processing. According to Mr. Pham Van Thien, Director of the Cooperative, who has a traditional oriental medicine profession passed down from his father, at first, his family only grew, purchased, and simply processed some medicinal herbs. Realizing the increasing demand for medicinal herbs from consumers, he and his members boldly invested in production lines and technology to process medicinal herbs into valuable products.
In processing, the principles of ensuring food hygiene and safety must be followed, especially the input materials must be clean, no pesticides must be used during the care process, and must be strictly controlled before being put into production into finished products. The human resources participating in the production line are experienced people with knowledge of oriental medicine. From 3 products recognized as 3-star OCOP including ginseng extract, black xạ extract and lotus leaf extract, up to now, the Cooperative has 7 products recognized as OCOP products. It is worth mentioning that instead of manual production, the facility has invested in factories, extract lines and continued to register for more Acanthopanax acanthopanax extract and lotus tea bags to participate in the OCOP product classification this year.
Up to now, Yen The district has 52 OCOP products achieving 3 stars or more. |
It is known that the cooperative's products are consumed throughout the provinces and cities in the country and receive good feedback from the market; annual revenue reaches billions of dong.
Similarly, Hao An Cooperative, An Thuong Commune specializes in growing fruit trees, mainly sweet grapefruit, red-fleshed dragon fruit, late-ripening longan and producing honey... Participating in the OCOP program since the early years, the Cooperative always adheres to safe farming processes; households supervise each other during the care process. With 20 hectares of land for growing fruit trees, the Cooperative annually supplies the market with more than 200 tons of various fruits. Up to now, the Cooperative has 3 products: dragon fruit, apple, longan honey recognized as OCOP products. The Cooperative continues to strive to develop more OCOP apple jam products that achieve 3 stars. In addition to focusing on product development, throughout the journey of developing the OCOP brand, the unit always focuses on improving product quality by producing according to food hygiene and safety standards. According to Cooperative Director Nguyen Van Hao, in addition to existing products, the Cooperative continues to research and produce new products that meet OCOP standards.
Support for subjects
As a mountainous district, Yen The has great potential for agricultural development, especially implementing the OCOP program. To effectively implement the program, every year, in addition to the support policy according to Resolution No. 67/2023/NQ-HDND dated December 13, 2023 of the Provincial People's Council, the District People's Committee allocates a part of the budget to support products participating in re-evaluation; support training for producers, build value chains, promote and display products at conferences and fairs inside and outside the province.
At the same time, integrate support policies for production facilities according to Resolution No. 26/2023/NQ-HDND dated July 14, 2023 of the Provincial People's Council to support machinery and equipment for production, preliminary processing, processing, packaging and product preservation.
Thanks to that, up to now, the whole district has 52 typical products with potential strengths to become OCOP products. Many subjects after having products recognized as OCOP have continuously improved the design, packaging, quality to build the brand, increase competitiveness.
OCOP products of Yen The district were displayed at the conference to promote the consumption of lychee and key agricultural products, typical OCOP products of Bac Giang province in 2025. |
According to Mr. Luong Van Hien, Deputy Head of the District’s Department of Agriculture and Environment, there is still a lot of room for the district to develop OCOP products. In addition to the recognized products, the district has recently evaluated 29 products, the results of which will be announced in June.
It is known that the products participating in the first evaluation this year include: Gac Lam tea (Tam Viet Dung Cooperative); soy sauce-cured chicken, hill chicken eggs, hill chicken wings (Yen The Green Agriculture Cooperative); Dai An roasted peanuts, Dai An yellow sesame peanut salt (Quang Duy Agriculture Cooperative); Hao An dried apple jam (Hao An Cooperative); black tea bags, green tea bags (Hang Anh Cooperative); Sim sticky rice jam, dried sim fruit, sim sticky rice honey (Sim sticky rice Cooperative); Moc Son leaf-fermented sticky rice wine, sesame-filled rice cake (Moc Son Agriculture Cooperative)...
To continue promoting the achieved results, especially implementing the policy of 2-level government (no longer district level), the district will immediately strengthen propaganda work to raise awareness of grassroots authorities, clearly defining the tasks of the grassroots level in managing, supervising and promoting program development. Strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of production processes of entities, resolutely eliminating products that do not meet the conditions specified in the Regulations on product management under the OCOP Program of the province.
