From the familiar four-panel, five-panel, and chit-waist ao dai in daily life, to the Nhat Binh ao dai and the tac ao dai typical of Hue - the capital of Vietnamese ao dai... Visitors to the Quang Ninh Provincial Museum (Ha Long City) seem to return to historical periods, witnessing the innovations and developments of the traditional ao dai. The Ao Dai collection by famous designers from Hue brings Ha Long public a vivid look at Ao Dai.

For the first time, many young people in Ha Long expressed their excitement when seeing Hue Ao Dai - a national intangible heritage.

Wearing white ao dai to visit with her friends, Pham Quynh Chi, a student at Ha Long High School for the Gifted, excitedly said: “I have seen these costumes on social media, but when I came here and witnessed the catwalk models, I was very impressed, imbued with the national identity of each region. I have always had a love for ao dai. I really like wearing ao dai, especially on holidays. Now, witnessing the ao dai in this event, I love and am even more proud of the ao dai of Vietnam.”

Ha Thi Giang Thanh, a girl from Quang Ninh, is currently one of the outstanding contestants in the final round of Miss Vietnam 2024, performing in Ao Dai in her hometown.

The exhibition space at the Museum on the shore of Ha Long Heritage Bay not only helps the public gain a deeper understanding of the history of Vietnamese Ao Dai, but also provides the opportunity to experience traditional cultural activities, such as Thanh Tien paper flower making, Dia Linh village's Ong Tao making, or the stages of Ao Dai sewing in Hue. The exhibition also applies digital technology in explanations and interactions, expanding the experience for a large number of domestic and international visitors when combined with a visit to the Quang Ninh Provincial Museum.

Ao dai designs also combine many materials and images from ethnic groups across Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Loc, Director of Hue City History Museum, said that the unit coordinated with Quang Ninh Provincial Museum to organize the exhibition based on close connections over the past time. Quang Ninh has organized an exhibition of coal sculptures in Hue, which received special attention from the public. Continuing these practical activities will help improve the quality and effectiveness of heritage conservation, education and communication between the two localities.

“Viewers can feel how modern ao dai is, how traditional ao dai is, and can better understand the historical and cultural significance of ao dai through lively activities. The Hue City Museum of History organized the ao dai exhibition today to continue the success in the coordination, introducing and promoting the cultural heritage of Quang Ninh in Hue, introducing and promoting the cultural heritage of Hue in Quang Ninh in particular, and together we preserve and promote the value of Vietnamese heritage in general,” Mr. Loc shared.
