Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online at noon on May 29, Mr. Pham Quoc Bao - principal of Nam Cha Primary Boarding School (Nam Nhun district, Lai Chau ) - said that the school had just divided more than 21 tons of rice to pay boarding students on the last day of the school year.
According to Mr. Bao, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 360 boarding students, each of whom will receive 15 kg of rice/student/month, for a maximum of 9 months, according to the Government 's policy of supporting students and schools in especially disadvantaged communes and villages.
"The total amount of rice supported for 360 students for the entire school year was 48.6 tons, but the students only ate 27 tons of rice. The school held a meeting with parents of boarding students for the remaining 21.6 tons of rice, and all agreed to the plan to divide the remaining rice equally.
On the last day of the school year (May 26), hundreds of parents and students were very excited to receive surplus rice. Some brought motorbikes, others brought motorbikes to the school warehouse, signed receipts, and then transported the rice home. The rice delivery took from morning to afternoon," said Mr. Bao.
Mr. Ly Van Sam, head of the school's parent representative committee, said that the family had two children who were eligible for support, so they were given 120kg to take home.
"My family is very happy to receive such a large amount of rice for the first time. This amount is enough for my family to eat for many months," Mr. Sam shared.
Sharing the reason for the large amount of surplus rice, Mr. Bao said that every day the school cooks two meals, breakfast and dinner, on average each student only eats 1.55 - 1.6 ounces of rice per meal, along with soup, vegetables and chicken, eggs or pork. In the morning, students eat fast food such as donuts, bread, etc.
"Sometimes students can't finish their food, so I have to encourage them to finish it all," said Mr. Bao.

Mr. Bao also said that in previous years, when he was the principal of Nam Manh Primary Boarding School (Nam Nhun District), every year he returned leftover rice to students to take home at the end of the school year.
In addition, Mr. Bao renovated the old school into a school with a beautiful mountain view, a garden with many types of flowers such as bougainvillea, banana flowers, birds of paradise. The playground is made of hundreds of old tires, in addition to swings, rope swings... making students love being at school more than at home.
Mr. Bao added that the school is currently building a playground for students at Nam Cha Primary Boarding School with many swings, rope swings, slides and planting more shade trees and ornamental plants in the school.
"A clean and beautiful school space will help attract children to class, students feel very comfortable and pleasant at school. Parents are also very happy when their children are cared for like that.
I just want to build a school where teachers are enthusiastic and dedicated to teaching andeducation , students attend school diligently, have good quality and the environment is as beautiful as a park," Mr. Bao added.
