A delegation of leading UK businesses in the offshore wind sector has undertaken a five-day working program in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , aiming to explore the market, connect with potential partners, and promote strategic cooperation in the clean energy sector.
This year's program focuses on offshore wind power development, in line with Vietnam's ambitious targets of reaching 6 to 17 GW by 2035 and over 70 GW by 2050.
With 15GW of wind power currently in operation and over 25 years of experience, the UK reaffirms its commitment to being a reliable partner for Vietnam in its energy transition.
Throughout the program, British businesses met with the energy working group of the British Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (BritCham Vietnam), worked bilaterally with project developers such as Pacifico Energy, PTSC , COP, and VinEnerGo. They also conducted a site visit to the PTSC port in Vung Tau to explore the potential of Vietnam's offshore wind power infrastructure.
In addition, the delegation also attended networking events in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, with the participation of more than 50 representatives from Vietnam's energy sector, including policymakers, project developers, consultants, and service providers.
At the workshop “Sustainable Energy Development: Policies for Offshore Wind Power in Vietnam,” co-organized by the British Embassy and the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade , British Ambassador Iain Frew remarked: “Vietnam is demonstrating a decisive leadership role in the energy transition.”
The revised Power Development Plan VIII, along with Resolution 70, has clearly affirmed this direction by prioritizing the development of renewable energy, expanding access to capital, and promoting reforms to attract private and international investment.
He fully supports and is proud to be a long-term partner accompanying Vietnam on its journey towards clean energy.
The delegation also contributes to the UK's broader energy diplomacy, including support for the Joint Fair Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and policy reform initiatives.
The discussions focused on key issues such as project financing, investor selection, and supply chain development.
