The Korea Mint and Security Printing Corporation issued a “Commemorative Medal” to celebrate the birthday of Lee Sang-hyeok (Faker). The player is a top star in the country’s eSports industry. He currently plays for the League of Legends team T1, founded by the network operator SKT.

The commemorative medal will go on sale on May 7 through the esports organization’s distribution system, which is also Faker’s birthday. The product comes in two limited editions. Only 507 gold medals are produced, weighing 15.55 grams and measuring 32 mm in diameter. It costs 3.65 million won (VND 66 million).

The cheaper silver option costs 365,000 won ( $254 ), with over 1,000 pieces to be distributed. The medal features a portrait of Faker on the front, sitting on a throne, symbolizing his status as the number one esports player. On the back are five stars, representing the five world championships he won with T1. The product is also signed with the words The Greatest Of All Time.

The Korea Mint and Security Printing Company has been regularly producing commemorative medals for fans. In 2022, they sold 10,000 products in collaboration with the idol group BTS, earning a record 6 billion won. Son Heung-min and Seventeen also had their medals minted.

The e-sports star is honored as one of the “national treasures of Korea”. The player born in 1996 is ranked with soccer player Son Heung-min, figure skater Kim Yu-na, director Bong Jun-ho and idol group BTS. Faker is known for his outstanding talent, perseverance and professional attitude rarely seen in the eSports industry.

The player's level of popularity is not inferior to KPop idols or actors of the hallyu wave.

In addition to 5 world championships, Faker also won 10 Korean championships and a gold medal at the Asian Games. He is also the representative face of a series of technology, car, food, game brands...

In the 2025 Korean Celebrity Power Ranking, Forbes ranked Faker at number 6. He ranked above baseball player Lee Jong-hoo, boy band Seventeen, Jisoo (BlackPink) and Cha Eun-woo.
