Along with the core being the Hoi An Ancient Town World Cultural Heritage Site, the tourism space of Hoi An City has been expanding and its ecological resources have been rationally exploited in recent years. Rural, coastal, and island tourism is being promoted and is increasingly attracting tourists.

In the development of tourism, services, and trade, in addition to focusing on improving service quality and diversifying products, the leaders of Hoi An City have advocated expanding the tourism and service development space to surrounding areas.

Accordingly, priority should be given to investing in the development of tourism infrastructure for coastal areas, islands, and rural villages, focusing on preserving and promoting the ecological and humanistic values of each region and locality, while simultaneously promoting the development of ecotourism and community-based tourism, creating conditions for people to participate in and benefit from tourism.

Mr. Luong Son, Secretary of the Party Committee of Cam Chau Ward, said that with the advantage of having more than 180 hectares of agricultural land and more than 40 hectares of ponds for shrimp farming, the city has directed the development of a plan to combine tourism development in this area.

"We have focused our leadership and guidance on developing ecotourism, while simultaneously creating conditions for the local people to engage in both agriculture and service industries, thereby improving their living standards," Mr. Son said.

In recent years, leveraging its abundant potential, Hoi An City has successfully developed tourism focused on exploring and experiencing traditional crafts and villages.

As a result, tourism spaces have expanded to rural areas and traditional craft villages, offering many attractive programs that are popular with both domestic and international tourists, such as pottery making, vegetable farming, rice plowing, river experiences, and exploring coconut forests. These tourist destinations have also contributed to extending the length of stay and visits of tourists in the area.

However, with more specific, appropriate, and groundbreaking support and incentive policies and plans, tourism in suburban and coastal areas will become a truly synchronized and effective system of products supporting tourism in ancient urban areas.

Because Hoi An is not just about Cham Island, Tra Que vegetable village, Thanh Ha pottery village, Kim Bong carpentry village, Cam Thanh mangrove forest... but also about other villages with diverse potential in terms of natural, cultural, and ecological resources.

Mr. Tran Anh, Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Council, said: "Besides the Old Town, Hoi An has been promoting the expansion of tourism spaces in the heritage buffer zone. The general trend is to make these spaces unique and attractive destinations, both to attract tourists and to increase revenue, creating more livelihoods for people in the surrounding areas."

Given that the Old Town – a World Heritage site and the city's tourism hub – is becoming overcrowded due to limited space and a constantly increasing number of visitors, connecting and creating unobstructed pathways for tourist spaces in Hoi An is absolutely essential.

Models or destinations, even those of small to medium scale, that possess unique advantages to meet the needs of tourists still have strong appeal and create widespread impact, ensuring benefits for the community.
