Coach Ange Postecoglou will have to leave Tottenham after this season. |
British media have unanimously confirmed that Ajax coach Francesco Farioli is being seriously considered to replace Ange Postecoglou. The Australian coach is almost certain to leave Spurs regardless of the final result.
The move comes as Fabio Paratici prepares to return to the pitch. After serving a two-and-a-half-year global football ban for financial misconduct while at Juventus, Paratici's ban officially expires at the end of June and he is likely to return to his role as Technical Director at Spurs, a position he held from 2021-2023.
Paratici will play a key role in the selection of a new Tottenham manager, with the board deciding that Postecoglou is no longer suitable after a disappointing Premier League season. Spurs lost 21 games, dropped to 17th place and narrowly avoided relegation, an unacceptable result despite being able to win the Europa League.
Among the candidates, Farioli - only 36 years old, is the name that makes a strong impression. Although he could not help Ajax win the Eredivisie this season, he is highly appreciated for his modern style, beautiful attacks and especially the ability to build a team in tight financial conditions. Before that, this coach made a splash at Nice and was a former student of Roberto De Zerbi.
In addition to Farioli, Tottenham are also eyeing coaches working in the Premier League such as Marco Silva (Fulham), Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) and Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace). However, Farioli is considered the most suitable if Spurs want to rebuild in a youthful and promising direction.
Barring any last-minute surprises, Tottenham will enter the new season with a new manager in charge and Farioli could be the man chosen to start the new chapter in North London.
