Approximately 70% easy, 30% difficult

On the afternoon of June 28th, candidates took the foreign language exam. This was the final subject in the 2024 high school graduation exam. According to experts, the English exam was fairly manageable, with 30% of the questions being difficult to differentiate candidates, mainly in the vocabulary section.

The foreign language group for this year's exam includes: English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean, with English being the most popular choice among candidates.

In Ho Chi Minh City, candidates left feeling elated because the exam was manageable. Candidate Do Phat, at the Dong Da Secondary School exam center (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), said: "With the English exam, I think passing the graduation exam wasn't difficult, but achieving a higher score depends on each student's ability. I feel I did quite well on the exam, and I'm very pleased."

Candidate Khuong Vy, at the Truong Tho Secondary School exam center (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), shared: "I found this year's English exam easy for me. The content was within the review program. I'm confident I can score 8 points."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh The, Head of Service Quality Management Department at eTeacher Tutoring Company in Ho Chi Minh City, said: "The results of the English exam are always an unknown quantity for candidates. Generally, the exam helps to differentiate between high-achieving candidates and the rest. In the first 15 multiple-choice questions, most focus on grammar points and general knowledge that students have learned. The two reading comprehension and question-answering sections have topics quite familiar to candidates, especially the topic of the environment, which is always widely discussed and could be an advantage for candidates to do well in this section. However, the amount of difficult vocabulary in the reading passages will be a barrier and a point to differentiate high-achieving candidates from average to above-average candidates."

Meanwhile, the fill-in-the-blank reading section may be challenging for most candidates. The multiple-choice section on conversational sentences, stress, and pronunciation is familiar, and candidates will not spend too much time on this part. Grammar in the multiple-choice section, as well as the sentence rewriting section, will be easy to complete if candidates have a solid grasp of basic grammar.

The section involving sentence synthesis with inverted grammar will be for the more advanced candidates - these are also the questions designed to differentiate between candidates."
