Meeting and talking to him, we always feel close to him because of the sincerity and gentleness that emanates from him, but he is also very determined in debates as if he does not want to compromise.
Looking at his paintings, we see some with simple colors, restrained shapes, and gentle relaxation. But there are also many paintings with contrasting colors, overlapping each other, covering the surface of the painting so fiercely that it still gives us a strange feeling of peace.

His father, painter Tran Luu Hau, is a famous painter of Vietnamese fine arts. Especially in the abstract painting genre, he was very successful and influenced many later generations of painters.
As a son, he was naturally proud and inherited much from his father. But his father's fame and success were also a pressure on him, because he also devoted himself to abstract painting and wanted to get out of his father's "shadow" in his own career.

Loving the leaves of the banyan trees, loving the small alleys of Hanoi , loving the rows of casuarinas or the fences along the coast, he painted, erased the concrete shapes as if they were real, then slowly added, subtracted or emphasized the shapes, the color blocks, the light and dark, near and far to put them back for the viewer to admire in another space - his own abstract space.
With nearly 30 large-scale paintings selected by Tran Luu My to display in the exhibition Void, which took place from November 15 to 22 at the Exhibition Hall 42 Yet Kieu (Vietnam University of Fine Arts), art lovers will be able to enjoy an abstract painting space named after Tran Luu My.

With his creative perseverance over many years, I think he is one of the artists who has made significant contributions to the abstract painting genre of contemporary Vietnamese fine arts.
Paintings are people and people are paintings!
