East Ho Chi Minh City aims to become an international tourism , logistics and free trade center

The eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City has a coastline of more than 150km with many famous beaches and the isolated offshore Ramsar Con Dao - home to the most unique ecosystem in Vietnam. The entire region currently has 132 tourism projects, of which 51 projects are in operation. A series of connecting traffic projects are being implemented, contributing to realizing the goal set out in Resolution 24 of the Politburo : to build this place into a "high-quality, international-class tourism center".
Mr. Le Cao Thanh - Director of the Institute for Strategic Studies - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said: "Ho Chi Minh City with more than 60 universities and many research institutes will be a center of science and technology, creating great opportunities to promote tourism and attract international investment".

In terms of maritime economy, Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster is the only deep-water port cluster in Vietnam that can receive container ships of over 200,000 DWT. The port currently has 51 service routes, 37 international routes, with about 150 large ships per month; ranking 7th globally in terms of container handling efficiency and second only to Singapore in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of routes to Europe and the US.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Hung - Director of Tan Cang Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Company Limited, informed: "Output in 2024 increased by nearly 45% over the same period, revenue and employee income indicators all grew strongly".

Cai Mep - Thi Vai is also identified as a special national port cluster , with a plan to form a Free Trade Zone in Cai Mep Ha with a scale of about 1,700 hectares, of continental scale. Colonel Bui Van Quy - Deputy General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation, emphasized: "With 18 new generation free trade agreements, Vietnam has the opportunity to expand import and export, attract investment and develop logistics, in which Cai Mep - Thi Vai will welcome more international service routes in the future".
