The 2025Education and Times Newspaper Cup Chess Tournament is a national tournament for all ages from primary, secondary to high school. The competition officially started on March 27, the qualifying round took place on April 15 and the final round took place on April 27, 2025.
The competition format combines online and live finals to help spread the reach widely, while increasing fair competition. Contestants will go through knockout and round-robin rounds.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Duong Thanh Huong - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Education and Times Newspaper said: The tournament is organized to create an intellectual playground, at the same time arouse and spread the passion for chess in the community to help students, creating an environment to train the mind, talent, patience and courage of students.
The tournament also contributes to improving the quality of comprehensive education, because chess not only trains intelligence but also helps children develop critical thinking, problem solving, time management and emotional control.
Highly appreciating the impact of the tournament, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Head of Military Chess Department, Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Chess Federation commented: "Dividing the tournament into groups by age and combining online and offline competitions helps increase the spread and bring dramatic competition experiences, promising to discover outstanding young chess talents".

Besides, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh also highly appreciated the initiative and dedication of Education and Times Newspaper and ECOMS in organizing a large-scale, methodical and meaningful tournament.
In addition, the Vietnam Chess Federation commits to a team of highly qualified referees, ensuring transparent and fair organization.
According to the Organizing Committee, this is the first year that the Education and Times Newspaper Cup Chess Tournament has received attention and positive response from society and a large number of students and parents. "It is expected that about 5,000 to 7,000 athletes will participate from the qualifying round. From there, 1,600 athletes will be selected for the final round to compete in a direct format," said the Organizing Committee representative.
The total prize value for the tournament is up to 464 million VND, including 16 first prizes of 10 million VND each; 16 second prizes of 6 million VND each; 32 third prizes of 3 million VND each; 160 consolation prizes of 500,000 VND each; 16 voting prizes of 2 million VND each.
