- Due to the recent impact of storm No. 3, many cultivated areas, including vegetables, of the people in the province were severely damaged. These days, taking advantage of the sunny weather, people in the province are focusing on caring for and producing vegetables, ensuring supply to the market in the coming time.
From early morning, Ms. Luong Thi Be in Block 8, Dong Kinh Ward, Lang Son City took the opportunity to go to the fields to break the ground to replant the family's hybrid vegetable fields that had just been completely lost in the recent storm No. 3. Although the land is currently very hard and takes a long time to plow, her family still tries to overcome it in time to plant and supply vegetables to the market in the upcoming winter crop.
Ms. Be shared: Due to the impact of storm No. 3, my family lost nearly 8 sao of hybrid mustard greens. Every year at this time, my family would have vegetables to sell, and the whole crop would earn 50 - 60 million VND. Currently, my family is preparing the land to replant vegetables, trying to take care of them so that we can harvest them in about 2 months.
Not only in Lang Son city, many households in Loc Binh district are also starting to restore vegetable production. In the recent storm No. 3, the district had over 280 hectares of crops damaged, mainly green vegetables of all kinds. After the storm, farmers proactively cleared their fields and gardens, waiting for the land to dry to sow the new crop. Up to this point, households have basically finished plowing the land and sowing vegetables such as: mustard greens, sweet mustard, jute mallow, etc. to meet market demand.
Mr. Vi Van Thang, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Loc Binh district, said: Storm No. 3 caused damage to a large area of vegetables in the area. The DARD has advised the District People's Committee to direct the Agricultural Service Center and the People's Committees of communes and towns to send specialized staff to guide people on measures to restore production, clean fields, prepare soil, prepare seeds and fertilizers to grow crops such as potatoes, cabbage and other vegetables, ensuring stable production. At the same time, the department also urgently reviewed and specifically inventoried the area of agricultural damage, synthesized and submitted to competent authorities for approval, ensuring conditions to support affected households according to regulations.
Due to the impact of storm No. 3, the whole province suffered damage to over 8,900 hectares of agricultural crops, including 2,700 hectares of various vegetables. Many vegetable areas ready for harvest were also severely affected. To restore production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed specialized units to accompany people to restore production.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Chien, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: After the storm, people have been very proactive in restoring vegetable production to meet market demand. On the part of the industry, we have directed specialized units to send staff to affected areas to guide people on technical measures to restore vegetable production after the storm. Currently, many vegetable growing areas have planted seeds, ensuring the supply of green vegetables in the coming time. Along with that, the department also requested districts and cities to summarize people's losses to allocate funds to communes for support. Regarding the level of support and the order and procedures for support, it is implemented according to the provisions of Articles 5 and 6 of Decree No. 02/2027/ND-CP dated January 9, 2017 of the Government on mechanisms and policies to support agricultural production to restore production in areas damaged by natural disasters and epidemics. Up to now, we have compiled the funding needs according to the registration of the People's Committees of districts and cities and reported to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and arrangement of support funding. In the immediate future, we have agreed with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lang Son province to use funding from the province's Relief Fund of about 80 billion VND for implementation.
In recent years, vegetables have brought high economic value to the people, especially vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, Chinese bok choy, and Chinese cabbage stems, which not only meet the consumption needs of the provincial market but also become specialty vegetables for tourists when coming to Lang Son. Currently, the province's vegetable growing areas are concentrated in Lang Son city, Cao Loc, Van Quan, and Loc Binh.
In the 2024 winter crop, the whole province strives to plant 4,600 hectares, including about 2,600 hectares of mainly various vegetables.
Up to now, with the guidance of the authorities and the enthusiasm of the people, the production of vegetables is being urgently deployed, ensuring to meet market demand and increase farmers' income.
