The Phan Thiet City Police Department's Open Billiards Tournament has begun.

On the morning of March 16th, the 2nd Phan Thiet City Police Billiards Tournament 2024 was held at Billiards 86 Club, Le Duan Street, Phan Thiet City. Attending the opening ceremony were leaders from the Provincial Police, Agribank Binh Thuan , Binh Thuan Newspaper, and participating units.

At the opening ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Sau - Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, delivered the opening speech : The 2nd Phan Thiet City Police Billiards Tournament aims to develop the physical education and sports movement within the Phan Thiet City Police, meeting the cultural and spiritual needs of officers and soldiers; contributing to the successful fulfillment of assigned tasks. It also provides an opportunity for leaders and officers with a talent for billiards to interact, learn, and strengthen solidarity and camaraderie.

The competition featured 62 athletes, including leaders from the Provincial Police, leaders from units within and outside the sector, police officers from wards and communes, and professional teams. Each unit fielded one pair of athletes, consisting of one commander and one officer. For the leadership competition, each pair consisted of two leaders.

Doubles billiards is a type of competition played in pairs, where two players from the same team take turns scoring one point per shot. The turn ends when one player fails to score, at which point the opposing pair takes the right to continue playing. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals are played in a knockout format. In the semi-finals and quarter-finals, each match is played to 40 points, with no limit on the number of turns.

The competition will take place over two days, March 16-17, and will conclude at the Phan Thiet City Police Department.
