In the opening round, the event attracted 31 teams from many high schools across the country, competing in two main categories: VEX IQ (primary and secondary school levels) and VEX V5 (from high school level and above).

The theme of the VEX IQ Robotics Competition in the 2026 National Championship is Mix and Match. The game requires robots to stack items and place them in the target area. Teams must overcome the challenges of Teamwork (working as a team for 60 seconds), Driving Skills (controlling the robot), and Autonomous Programming Skills (robots operating on their own).

The theme of the VEX V5 Robotics Competition is Push Back - a challenge of speed, strength and strategy. Teams must design robots with defensive and offensive capabilities to control the field and score points.

In the starting round, the alliance team of Archimedes Academy Primary School ( Hanoi ) and Cau Giay Secondary School (Hanoi) won the first prize in VEX IQ primary school category. The alliance team of Ly Tu Trong Secondary School (Phu Tho) and Olympia School, Vinschool School, Edison School (Hanoi) won the first prize in VEX IQ secondary school category.
