- This summer, with the forecast of severe and prolonged heat, the issue of providing clean water for people in urban areas in Lang Son province has become more urgent than ever. Ensuring enough clean water for tens of thousands of households is not only a major infrastructure challenge but also a problem of effective management and distribution of water resources, timely response to increasing demand and the risk of shortage. Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company is making every effort to "fight thirst" for the province's urban areas during peak months.
Currently, the whole province has nearly 60,000 customers using clean water for daily life of Lang Son Water Supply and Sewerage Joint Stock Company, of which Lang Son city is an urban area accounting for more than half with about 30,000 customers, urban areas in 10 districts have nearly 30,000 customers. These numbers show that a large number of people in urban areas are using domestic water from the unit. Therefore, ensuring sufficient and safe clean water sources for people in urban areas in Lang Son province is extremely important.
Recall that in 2022 and 2023, Lang Son city experienced a serious shortage of clean water for daily life. Many residential areas did not have access to clean water, seriously affecting people's lives. The main cause was determined to be that water treatment did not meet requirements and the over-reliance on water from Na Tam Lake and Tham Sinh Lake (Hoang Dong Commune, Lang Son City).
To prevent this situation from recurring, from 2024, even when the drought lasts for many months (from the third quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2025), Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company has synchronously deployed more practical and innovative solutions.
Mr. Phuong Manh Hao, Deputy General Director of Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, said: We have learned a profound lesson from the years of water shortage. The problem is not only having enough raw water but also how we manage and treat it. Diversifying water sources, especially exploiting water from the Ky Cung River and being determined to reduce losses by investing in technology and renovating the system are key factors that help the company ensure a stable supply. This year, with forecasts of prolonged hot weather, people's demand for water will increase accordingly. In order to avoid a shortage of clean water for daily use during the hot and dry seasons of the year, the company has carefully prepared plans so that people do not worry about a shortage of clean water for daily use.
Accordingly, the first option is that the Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company changes the water source. Instead of only using lake water, the company flexibly combines both lake water and Ky Cung river water to process into clean water for daily use. Although river water treatment is more expensive than lake water treatment, this is the optimal solution, ensuring an abundant water source that is never lacking during the distribution process.
The second option is for the company to invest heavily in infrastructure. The company has renovated and upgraded its pipeline and booster pump systems, while strengthening anti-leakage solutions. Proactively checking, detecting and fixing leaks has brought about clear results. The water loss rate has decreased from 30-35% in 2022 and 2023 to only 25-27% in 2024.
The company's continuous efforts have brought about very positive figures. Currently, every day and night, the company's factories exploit and supply a total output of about 40,000 m³ of water, of which water supply in Lang Son city is about 22,000 m³/day and night and in the remaining 10 districts is from 18,000 - 20,000 m³/day and night. Since the beginning of the year, the average monthly water output has reached over 872,000 m³, of which Lang Son city accounts for about 466,000 m³, the rest is in the 10 districts. According to the company's leaders, with the plans that have been and are being implemented, the company will meet the stable and safe water output for customers in the coming time.
To achieve these results, the company has developed a detailed plan, specified in Decision No. 63/QD-NLS dated February 20, 2025 on approving the goals and actions for clean water production and supply in 2025. This decision sets out 4 major goals, divided into 8 specific actions for each department.
Ms. Vu Thi Thu, Deputy Head of the Collection Team (a department that regularly contacts customers) said: To proactively fight thirst during the hot and dry season this year, we have increased consultation and communication to customers about regulations and policies related to clean water services. The most important thing is to quickly and promptly process information and requests from customers. We ensure that over 60% of the information received will be processed within the working day and have staff on duty to handle important information on both Saturday and Sunday. Customer satisfaction is the measure of our efforts.
These positive changes have been creating strong trust in the community. Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong, Cua Dong block, Chi Lang ward, Lang Son city shared: During the hot and dry season, my family's water demand increased by 2 - 3 m3/month compared to previous months, ranging from 12 - 15 m3/month. A few years ago, every time the hot and dry season came, we were worried and often had to store water in tanks. However, from 2024 until now, we have not seen any shortage of clean water for daily life, so we feel more secure. I also really hope that the source of clean water for daily life will be provided stably and regularly so that people do not have to store water like before.
“We are committed to continuing to maintain and improve service quality, constantly improve technology and optimize the system to ensure a sustainable clean water source for Lang Son. Our goal is not only to provide enough water but also to build a modern and efficient water supply and drainage system, contributing to improving the quality of life for all people in the province," affirmed Mr. Phuong Manh Hao, Deputy General Director of Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company.
With clear methods, goals and actions, Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company not only proactively fights "thirst" this summer but also lays a solid foundation for a stable source of clean water for a long time, contributing to the sustainable development of the company and stabilizing people's lives.
