During the resistance war against the French, Lang Son was an important area. Following Highway 4 through Lang Son, French soldiers regularly transported weapons and logistics from Mong Cai to the base in Cao Bang to carry out the plot to attack the Viet Bac base and destroy our resistance headquarters. Information work on the war, mobilizing people to increase production, practice thrift, and actively support the resistance became very urgent. Under the direction of the Provincial Party Committee, in 1948, many newsletters and magazines were published. The most typical were the newsletters published by the Lang Son Information Service. These newsletters existed under many different names: "Newsletter", "Lang Son News", "News Everywhere", "Lang Son", "Lang Son Information"... At first, the newsletter was as small as A4 paper, printed on both sides, later it was larger, 40x27cm, consisting of four pages. The main content is news, published periodically to convey information to organizations and people in the province. Although simple, the content reflects very richly, imbued with the breath of the working and fighting life of Lang Son's army and people in all fields. The newsletter is often written in the form of short news, special issues commemorating major holidays of the province and the country include editorials, Tet issues include short stories, poems, etc. In addition, the newsletter also has many supplements, special issues, magazines and fast news published periodically such as "Tin dien", "Tin chien thang" ... Later, Lang Son news developed into Lang Son Newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of Vietnam in Lang Son province.
To serve the heroic resistance war against the French, since June 1948, the province has had the Lang Son Resistance newspaper published by the Information Department. This publication was maintained until the end of the resistance war against the French. Lang Son Resistance had a large size of 26.5 x 20.5 cm, the number of pages was quite thick, the issue published on July 27, 1948 was 10 pages thick. The content focused on reflecting the wartime situation in the form of notes, stories, news... Many works of poetry, literature, music written about Lang Son during this period were published here...
The same method and time of publication as the provincial newsletter are the district-level newsletters. In some districts, there are newsletters edited, printed and published by the Department of Culture and Information, such as: Bang Mac district and Diem He district have the "Bang Mac information" and "Diem He information" newspapers published once a week; Huu Lung district has the "Truyen tin" newspaper; On Chau district has the "Tieng Loa" newspaper published once every 5 days. On Chau district also publishes the "Truth" newsletter to carry out political and ideological work for the people living in the areas occupied by the French. On the mantle of this newsletter, it is clearly stated: "For the people in the temporarily controlled areas only". These newsletters are small in size, printed on one or two sides to convey information and policies of the Party, the State, the province and the district to the communes and villages in the district. At the same time, it exposed the crimes and evil plots of the French invaders against the people of Lang Son, strengthening the people's faith in the leadership of the Party and the victory of the resistance war. In addition, some units also had their own newsletters. The Lang Son army and people had the weekly newsletter "Guerrilla" from 1948. In 1949, the Lang Son Local Regiment had the newspaper "Local Army". The Lang Son army and people had the newspaper "People's Strength" No. 1 published on April 15, 1951...
In addition to the above newsletters, departments and branches in the province also published many magazines to serve the information and propaganda work within their scope and fields. As early as April 1948, Lang Son National Salvation Association published the internal magazine "Quyet Tien" to convey information and activities of the association. On October 1, 1950, the Provincial Party Committee published the internal magazine "Chien Thang" No. 1. During the campaign to eradicate illiteracy, the Department of Popular Education published the newspaper "Dan Hoc" (No. 1 published in March 1952) to report on popular education and the situation of "eradicating illiteracy" in localities in the province, published once a month. Around 1954, the province had the newspaper "Cac vich chung" of Lang Son Deployment Group, published one issue every 3 to 7 days... These specialized magazines mainly reported on activities related to the professional expertise of departments and branches, and did not exist for long.
Lang Son press during the years of fighting against the French became a bridge creating a close bond between the Party, the government, mass organizations and all classes of people in the difficult and arduous war conditions. The birth of news sheets and magazines serving information and propaganda work in Lang Son at that time showed the role and importance of the press in carrying out the political tasks of the locality. With the meaning of being a mirror reflecting reality, the above publications are valuable documents serving the research of history, literature and art of the province; proving a strong development path of Lang Son press.
