Journalist Nguyen Dong Bac, Editor-in-Chief of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, affirmed: Digital transformation is the key to journalism in the current period, and journalists need to proactively adopt and embrace technology. At the provincial newspaper and radio and television station, we recognize that people are at the center of digital transformation, therefore we have strengthened training and retraining for our journalistic staff, disseminating new knowledge through self-study, peer learning, or training provided by the agency. Along with that, digital technology infrastructure, including the transmission and broadcasting system, infrastructure serving the production of journalistic products, and software for managing professional work, has been invested in and practically supported for journalists in their work.
During the period 2023–2024, Lang Son Newspaper and Lang Son Radio and Television Station (before the merger) organized 10 intensive training courses for reporters and editors on topics such as: multimedia journalism skills, digital newsroom operation, data security, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in content production… As a result, the journalistic staff at the two merged units quickly adapted and applied technology to the production of journalistic works, meeting the increasingly high demands of viewers, listeners, and readers.
Embracing the digital transformation, in 2024, the provincial Radio and Television Station established a digital content production team. By 2025, after merging with Lang Son Newspaper to form Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, the unit was restructured into the Electronic News - Digital Content Department. The department's staff consists of dynamic and creative reporters who play a key role in delivering timely, vivid, and engaging news to the public through news websites and social media.
Regarding digital infrastructure, in 2024, the Broadcasting and Television Station invested in an OTT (Over-the-Top) system. This system helps distribute television products closer to viewers via the internet without needing traditional distribution channels such as cable TV, satellite TV, or telecommunications services. Furthermore, the OTT system can adjust resolution and video formats to suit various devices; it allows for analysis of viewer behavior, personalization of the experience, and suggests content relevant to each audience, increasing the attractiveness of television news reports. It also facilitates direct audience interaction and feedback through comments.
The production process for journalistic works is implemented synchronously and fully digitized through a Content Management System (CMS). Reporters working remotely can send news, articles, photos, and clips to the newsroom; editors edit and review for publication in a completely closed process over the Internet. As a result, information is processed and reaches readers as quickly as possible. Content distribution is also flexible; a topic can be republished and explored in various formats—print, electronic, radio, and television—from different perspectives and posted through electronic information channels and social media managed by the organization, such as the LSTVgo application, fan pages, TikTok, and YouTube.
Reporter Ninh Van Tuyen from the Television, Newspaper and Radio and Television Department of Lang Son shared: "I apply digital technology to almost all stages of news and article production. Specifically, in the pre-production stage, for reports dozens of pages long, I use artificial intelligence (AI) to select data related to the topic being worked on. In the post-production stage, I use specialized software to handle transition errors, remove noise in interview segments, and eliminate unwanted characters in interviews... Therefore, not only is the speed of producing journalistic works accelerated, but the quality is also improved."
Mr. Bui Van Huy, a driver on the Hanoi – Dinh Lap route, said: "I often watch the LSTVgo app while waiting for passengers. The app is very convenient for people who travel frequently like me because I don't have to depend on schedules or broadcast times like on TV before. All I need is a smartphone to watch the news."
With its well-structured training process, synchronized digital infrastructure, scientific operational organization, and innovative journalistic thinking, Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station are rapidly catching up with the trends of the times to effectively fulfill their mission of disseminating information and propaganda to serve the revolutionary cause of the Party and the country's reform; ensuring their role in leading and guiding public opinion, and affirming the position of local journalism.
