One of the typical models in Hung Ha commune is the grapefruit pulp processing facility of Ms. Dinh Thi Duyen, Bong Thon village. From raw materials that were thought to be discarded, Ms. Duyen has turned grapefruit pulp into grapefruit tea products with a strong traditional flavor. During her time working for hire, Ms. Duyen realized that there was a large demand from consumers, but the grapefruit pulp processing stage was quite difficult, so few people did it. From then on, she started to learn the process through the internet, newspapers and directly went to production facilities inside and outside the province to accumulate experience. The early days of starting a business were full of difficulties, but thanks to her perseverance, Ms. Duyen successfully processed grapefruit pulp according to customer tastes. When the product was well received, she boldly invested in cutting machines, squeezing machines, necessary equipment and built a factory on an area of 200m2 of her family's converted land for large-scale production. Not only making use of grapefruit pulp, she also collects grapefruit peels to sell to establishments producing essential oils and herbal shampoos, while grapefruit pulp is consumed in restaurants, eateries and households. Currently, every day, Ms. Duyen's facility buys from 1 to 1.5 tons of fresh grapefruit, producing nearly 100 kg of finished pulp with a selling price of 70,000 to 80,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, earning about 200 million VND per year. The facility creates jobs for 20 to 30 local workers with an income of 6 to 8 million VND/person/month. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa: "The job requires meticulousness and carefulness, but Ms. Duyen guides me very carefully. Every day I can make 2 to 30 kg of pulp, with a monthly income of 6 to 8 million VND. The job is very suitable for rural women and brings a stable income." Ms. Duyen's startup idea not only increases the value of the product but also contributes to solving the problem of agricultural by-products, solving the problem of environmental pollution, contributing to opening a new direction in household economic development. In particular, her grapefruit pulp product is undergoing procedures to be recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, gradually improving the product's value and creating prestige in the market.
From the typical start-up models of women, it can be seen that women in Hung Ha commune are increasingly dynamic and creative in economic development. They not only dare to think and do, but also know how to take advantage of local advantages to create unique products, build brands and increase the value of their hometown agricultural products. It is their perseverance, acumen and spirit of overcoming difficulties that have contributed significantly to the development of the rural economy, increased family income and created more jobs for local workers.
