Not accepting flowers on opening day, Ho Chi Minh City education sector donates more than 17 billion VND to help people affected by storms and floods

On September 15, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City - City Relief Mobilization Committee received 3 billion VND from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to support people in provinces affected by storms and floods in 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the new school year 2025 - 2026, the Department launched a movement to contribute in the form of not accepting congratulatory flower baskets, which was actively responded to by delegates and parents.

The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City - City Relief Mobilization Committee received 3 billion VND from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to support people in provinces affected by storms and floods in 2025.

From this movement, the City's education sector has mobilized more than 17 billion VND, of which more than 14 billion VND was directly sent by the Department to support localities, the remaining 3 billion VND was transferred to the City's relief fund to promptly share difficulties with other provinces.

At the reception, Ms. Truong Thi Bich Hanh, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City expressed her appreciation for the heart and spirit of sharing of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and the collective of teachers, educational administrators, workers and students who actively supported people affected by natural disasters, contributing to alleviating losses and pain, helping people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

From contributions from agencies, units, businesses and individuals, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City is urgently coordinating with provinces and cities affected by natural disasters to organize fund disbursement; directly support and visit families who suffered losses in human lives and property; promptly bring support resources to the right places in need to spread the spirit of solidarity and mutual love of Ho Chi Minh City people to people across the country.

It is known that two days before the opening ceremony of the new school year (September 3), the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued a document to educational institutions in the area about not accepting congratulatory flowers in any form.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in order to accompany and share the difficulties of people in the mountainous provinces, the Northern midlands and the North Central region who are suffering heavy losses caused by storms No. 4 and No. 5, the Department recommends that educational institutions launch a movement to support people affected by storms and floods; at the same time, guide and encourage units and individuals to convert the form of congratulating the opening ceremony with flowers to practical donations for the school's scholarship fund or contribute to support people in disaster areas, responding to the general call of the industry.
