The Department of Industry and Trade has just informed agricultural import-export enterprises in the area, especially watermelon exporters, to grasp the regulations on quarantine standards and inspection and control of Vietnamese watermelon products exported to the Chinese market.
Accordingly, 7 contents on plant quarantine requirements for fresh watermelon imported from Vietnam to the Chinese market include: Basis for inspection and quarantine; name of goods allowed to be imported; origin of goods allowed to be imported; requirements for approved fruit gardens and packaging factories; list of pests and quarantines that need attention in China; management before export; import inspection, quarantine and handling when not meeting standards.
Fresh Vietnamese watermelons exported to China must not be contaminated with 5 live plant quarantine objects including: 3 species of fruit flies, 1 species of aphids and 1 type of bacteria.
All growing areas and packaging facilities for fresh watermelons exported to China must be registered and granted codes by both the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China.
The garden must apply good agricultural practices (GAP) and must ensure garden supervision and packaging process supervision; the packaging facility must establish a traceability system to ensure that fresh watermelons exported to China can be traced to the growing area that has been assigned a code.
Vietnamese watermelon shipments are exported through all border gates licensed by the General Administration of Customs of China to import fresh fruit.
The above information has been announced by Chinese authorities and takes effect immediately.
