Overseas Vietnamese wish to contribute more
The opinions of overseas Vietnamese in the US from Professor Phan Man, Dr. Hung Tran or President of the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in the US To Dieu Lien... all expressed the desire to connect the Vietnamese community in the US as well as contribute more to the development of Vietnam.

Dr. Hung Tran, a technology worker in Silicon Valley, really hopes that Vietnam can take advantage of the opportunity of upgrading relations with the US to build a digital economy. "There is a question: how can we take advantage of such an opportunity?", Mr. Hung asked and also answered himself: "The important thing is to build a high-quality human resource team". With the strength of having a large technology company in Silicon Valley, Dr. Hung Tran said he is willing to join hands with domestic companies and authorities to train a high-quality technology human resource team for Vietnam.
Elevating relationships opens up opportunities for cooperation
Talking to overseas Vietnamese, the Prime Minister emphasized the important significance of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joe Biden's announcement to upgrade Vietnam-US relations to develop on all three bilateral, regional and international levels after nearly 30 years of normalizing relations and 10 years of establishing a comprehensive partnership, in which economy - trade - investment continues to be a bright spot and driving force of bilateral relations with two-way turnover reaching over 123 billion USD by 2022. Cooperation between the two countries in science - technology, education - training, security - defense, overcoming the consequences of war, responding to climate change, people-to-people exchange, etc. continues to achieve many important developments.
The Prime Minister said: "I hope that the two sides will create a breakthrough in cooperation in science and technology, innovation, education and training; at the same time, further promote climate change response, green growth, and renewable energy development." According to the Prime Minister, the content of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is not only based on the needs and potentials of the two countries but also on the potentials and strengths of the Vietnamese community in the US to further promote the role of the community, contributing to the cultivation and development of the increasingly deep relationship between the two countries.

According to the Prime Minister, the overseas Vietnamese community in general is increasing in number and expanding in geographical area with about 6 million people in more than 130 countries and territories, including many experts and intellectuals. The role, position and prestige of the overseas Vietnamese community in the host society continue to be consolidated and enhanced. Many politicians of Vietnamese origin have increased their influence in local politics, contributing to the protection of rights and interests and better meeting the increasingly diverse needs of the community in the host society, while contributing to enhancing the position and role of the community. Many Vietnamese experts and intellectuals have gathered and established the local Innovation Network and promoted activities in the country, with many initiatives and activities in the field of high technology and innovation, contributing to the country on urgent and long-term issues.
According to the Prime Minister, to date, overseas Vietnamese have had 385 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of over 1.7 billion USD and contributed capital to thousands of enterprises in Vietnam. The amount of remittances to the country is very large, equivalent to 7% of GDP, continues to increase annually and is an extremely valuable resource for the economy.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Vietnamese community in the US, which continues to grow strongly, with about 2.2 million people, making it the largest Vietnamese community in the world. In particular, on the West Coast alone, the number of Vietnamese people has reached more than 1 million, of which 700,000 are in San Francisco. More and more Vietnamese people are successful in the fields of economics, science, technology, and education. The number of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals in the US accounts for about half of the total number of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals abroad worldwide. There are currently about 170,000 Vietnamese businessmen in the US.
The Prime Minister also informed overseas Vietnamese that the domestic economic situation has achieved important and comprehensive results in many fields. The macro economy is basically stable, inflation is controlled, growth is promoted, and major balances are ensured. In 2022, the total GDP will reach 409 billion USD; growth of over 8%, the highest increase in the period from 2011 to 2022; FDI investment will reach about 22.4 billion USD, the highest in the past 5 years; total import-export turnover will reach a record of over 732 billion USD, trade surplus of over 11 billion USD; tourists to Vietnam will reach 3.7 million, more than 20 times higher than in 2021. In the first 9 months of 2023, the socio-economic situation will continue to have many bright spots in many fields with the results of "better month after month, better quarter after quarter".
Lots of activities in San Francisco
On September 18 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to have 8 consecutive activities in San Francisco: working with a number of representative Vietnamese overseas businesses in San Francisco; attending the Vietnam - US Business Forum on cooperation in the field of technology and innovation; visiting San Francisco University; receiving a delegation of politicians and businesses from Oregon state; receiving a delegation of politicians from San Francisco and the Bay Area. After that, the Prime Minister will visit the semiconductor chip manufacturing company NVIDIA, Synopsys Company, and META Company. That same evening, the Prime Minister will leave San Francisco for Washington DC.
