The swimmer who broke Anh Vien's record has a great chance of getting a ticket to the Paris Olympics.

The Vietnamese swimming team may have two faces competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics with Nguyen Huy Hoang as the official candidate and Vo Thi My Tien as the 18-year-old talent who broke Nguyen Thi Anh Vien's record.

On June 25, a representative of the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association confirmed that Vo Thi My Tien has a great chance of receiving a special ticket, along with male swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, to compete in the Paris Olympics at the end of July.

The reason Vo Thi My Tien has a great chance of receiving a wild card is because she is the Vietnamese female swimmer with the highest score on the World Swimming Federation (FINA) rankings, considering her performance from 2023 to present. On July 3, FINA will finalize the list of all swimmers participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but because Vietnamese athletes are no longer competing in any international tournaments, the wild card may belong to Vo Thi My Tien. It is known that at the 2024 Paris Olympics, if she receives a wild card, Vo Thi My Tien will compete in the only event, the 200m individual medley. This is the event in which Vo Thi My Tien caused a stir 4 years ago when she broke the record of her senior Nguyen Thi Anh Vien at the national youth tournament. Specifically, My Tien's achievement was 2 minutes 21 seconds 67 while Anh Vien's record at that time was 2 minutes 22 seconds 05. Last year, My Tien also broke her old record when she achieved 2 minutes 19 seconds 23. With her talent revealed, Vo Thi My Tien had time to be given the opportunity to go to Hungary for training. Thanks to that, she has made progress and improved her achievements in both freestyle and mixed events. Thus, if there are no major last-minute changes, the Vietnamese sports delegation will attend the 2024 Paris Olympics with 15 athletes, including 13 official slots and 2 special slots for swimming (Vo Thi My Tien) and athletics (Tran Thi Nhi Yen).
