
Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy sponsored 1 billion VND for a type A basic scientific research project.

On October 8, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy organized a workshop to deploy and connect strong, close-knit and potential research groups of the school.
Here, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, implements the Regulations on the establishment and organization of activities of strong research groups, strong research groups and potential research groups. According to this regulation, strong research groups are funded up to 2.5 billion VND/5 years to maintain group activities, with priority given to presiding over state/ministerial level topics and type A basic topics, while group leaders and key members are given a 50% reduction in teaching hours.
The strong asymptotic research group is funded up to 1.75 billion VND/5 years, with priority given to chairing provincial-level topics and type B basic topics. The group leader and key members are converted to 40% of annual scientific research hours. The potential research group is funded up to 1.25 billion VND/5 years, with priority given to chairing type B topics. The group leader and key members are converted to 30% of annual scientific research hours. All 3 groups are given priority in using facilities, international cooperation, attracting experts, supporting graduate students, commercializing research results and rewarding scientific publications and achievements.
Notably, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced a strong investment policy for scientific research, with funding for basic-level projects up to 1 billion VND for each type A project and 300 million VND for type B projects. In 2025, two lecturers were assigned to preside over type A projects worth 1 billion VND, namely Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Tuan and Dr. Ly Minh Huy (School of Pharmacy). In addition, the school also provided funding for 20 type B projects, totaling 6 billion VND.
The school also aims to build 5 strong research groups and 5 key national science and technology programs in the next 5 years. The school plans to spend 265 billion VND on scientific research, recruit 5 international experts in key fields (such as: medical AI, precision medicine...); train 50 PhDs in the period 2025-2030.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat, Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, said that last year the school earned 105 billion VND from revenue from science and technology activities and transfer. However, the school recognized some points that need to be improved to promote science and technology activities to develop more and more. Specifically, including outstanding policies to encourage scientists to focus on scientific research, financial resources and facilities for research, connectivity and sharing of research/transfer ideas, etc.
