Green economy - an inevitable trend

Developing a green economy is becoming an inevitable trend in the context of integration and the increasing demands for sustainable development. In Phu Tho, from agricultural and industrial production to attracting investment, "greening" the economy is not only a long-term goal but is gradually becoming an urgent requirement to enhance competitiveness and create momentum for sustainable growth in the future.

Market pressure

The green growth mindset is not only present in resolutions or action programs but is also gradually becoming evident in the production and business activities of enterprises and individuals.

According to the new development orientation, Phu Tho province has identified rapid but sustainable development, harmonizing economic , social, and environmental aspects; taking science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green growth as the driving forces for the new development phase.

That is also why, recently, the province has continuously promoted programs to improve the Provincial Green Index (PGI), developed a green economic development plan for the period 2026-2030, and prioritized attracting high-tech, environmentally friendly projects.

While many manufacturing facilities previously focused primarily on output and revenue, market demands have now changed significantly. Environmental standards, traceability, carbon emissions, and circular production are gradually becoming crucial prerequisites for goods to participate more deeply in major supply chains.

Green economy - an inevitable trend

The Nam Vinh Yen urban area has been developed with internal amenities such as playgrounds, sports facilities, medical services, and educational institutions , becoming one of the model urban areas in the province.

In tea production, many raw material areas in the province are gradually shifting to safe production processes and synchronized quality control. Ms. Bui Thi Mao - Director of Hoai Trung Tea Co., Ltd. (Chi Tien commune) shared: "If we don't clean up and can't trace the origin, it's very difficult to compete. Now, customers not only demand delicious tea but also care about whether the production process ensures environmental protection."

The livestock sector is also shifting towards a greener direction. Many farms have invested in enclosed housing systems, waste treatment, and automated technologies to reduce pollution and control diseases.

According to the province's thematic reports on green growth, the current rate of livestock farms treating waste using biogas or new clean technologies is approximately 22.8%; the area of organic production reaches 378 hectares. These figures show that the "greening" process of production has begun and there is still much room for expansion.

From a business perspective, green development is no longer simply an environmental responsibility but has become a decisive factor in competitiveness and survival in the market. Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Production Manager of the electronic components manufacturing plant at Exedy Co., Ltd. (Khai Quang Industrial Park), stated: “Foreign partners have strict environmental standards. If we cannot meet them, it is almost impossible for businesses to participate deeply in the supply chain.”

With many major markets tightening green standards for imported goods, the pressure to transform is becoming increasingly evident for the local business community.

Towards sustainable growth

One of the most notable changes is the significant shift in development thinking. While previously many places prioritized maximizing resource exploitation to drive growth, now the issue of sustainable development is being emphasized more and more strongly.

In many mountainous areas, people are beginning to participate in livelihood development models linked to forest protection, medicinal plant cultivation, and community tourism . Phu Tho possesses a large forest area with high forest cover, creating an advantage in developing an ecological economy and absorbing natural carbon. According to the new orientation, the province aims to increase the forest cover rate to over 55%, while expanding the undergrowth economy and ecotourism.

Green economy - an inevitable trend

Ba Thien II Industrial Park (Binh Xuyen commune) has been invested in with comprehensive infrastructure and environmental landscape, creating an attractive investment environment for foreign businesses.

Comrade Nguyen Van Quan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated: "Green development is not only a task for the agricultural sector but also a common requirement for the entire economy. If we continue to develop in a way that exploits resources at all costs, sustainable development will be difficult."

Awareness of green development is gradually spreading from the government and businesses to the people. Many localities prioritize environmentally friendly investment projects, limiting outdated and energy-intensive technologies. In the industrial sector, the province requires industrial parks to allocate at least 10% of their area to green spaces and water bodies; encourages wastewater reuse, solar energy use, and other energy-saving solutions.

In 2025, the industrial sector will continue to play a driving role in the province's growth, accounting for approximately 55.4% of the economic structure and achieving a growth rate of 15.4%. However, the development orientation will no longer be "growth at all costs," but will gradually shift towards selecting high-tech, low-emission projects with higher added value.

In the context of globalization, green development is no longer an option but a necessity. Many major global markets are implementing increasingly stringent carbon control mechanisms, environmental standards, and traceability requirements. This means that without green transition, businesses will lose their competitive edge.

For Phu Tho, this presents both pressure and an opportunity to restructure its growth model towards greater sustainability. From clean tea growing areas, organic agriculture, circular livestock farming to eco-industrial zones, these current shifts may not create immediate change but are laying the foundation for stable and long-term future development.

In particular, as the province aims to become a growth hub of the Capital Region with a GRDP growth rate of approximately 11-12% per year during the 2026-2030 period, the green factor will increasingly become an important criterion in attracting investment.

In reality, major investors are now not only interested in land or labor costs, but also in sustainable development environments, infrastructure quality, and the ability to meet international standards.

The path to green growth is not easy, as it requires significant resources, advanced technology, and a shift in production mindset. However, it is an inevitable trend.

From the developments taking place today, it is clear that Phu Tho is gradually shaping a new development model: faster but more sustainable growth, more modern but also more responsible towards the environment and the future.
