The southwest of Bai Tu Long Bay borders Ha Long Bay, the west borders the mainland of Cam Pha City, the east borders the sea and the northeast borders Co To island district (Quang Ninh).
In addition to the values bestowed by nature, Bai Tu Long Bay is also associated with the history of the Vietnamese people, with the famous Van Don commercial port relic and many historical relics such as: Tinh Hai fort; Mac Dynasty citadel (on Ngoc Vung island), Quan Lan communal house (Quan Lan island commune, Van Don district); Tram Gian pagoda (Thang Loi island commune, Van Don district) ...
According to the Department of Culture and Sports of Quang Ninh, the name Bai Tu Long Bay is associated with an interesting legend that will be told by local people to visitors when they first come here. The formation of Bai Tu Long Bay reflects the process of building and defending the country for thousands of years of the nation.
Bai Tu Long Bay has many land islands with a fairly large population, while in Ha Long Bay the islands are uninhabited.
Legend has it that: The Jade Emperor once ordered the mother dragon to bring her baby dragons down to earth with the purpose of helping and supporting the Vietnamese people in fighting the enemy. The dragons spat out countless pearls and instantly transformed into thousands of large and small islands on the sea, preventing the enemy ships from entering the mainland from the sea. Those islands were like solid walls blocking the enemy's advance. The enemy ships were speeding when they were blocked by the islands and sank.
The enemy was defeated, the mother dragon and her child did not fly back to heaven but stayed on earth. The place where the mother dragon first set foot is now Ha Long, and the child dragon was at the location of Bai Tu Long today.
