If we compare the length of Vietnamese history to an epic poem, then surely the most glorious and brilliant chapters are the ones praising heroes. Remembering the past means we bow before the sacrifices and hardships of previous generations, so that we can feel the preciousness of independence and freedom today. Because history is written by the exploits of heroes.
The Dien Bien Phu victory has gone down in history for 70 years. But the memories of a time of digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels, enduring rain, eating rice balls, the days of breaking rocks to open roads under the enemy's bombs and bullets to ensure transportation and supply routes from the rear to the battlefield, to the fierce battles to seize every inch of land, every trench in the strongholds, or the joyful emotions on the day of victory are still deeply engraved in the hearts of those who participated in the battle and served in the battle.
At the age of 90, former youth volunteer Ho Ngoc Toan's eyes are dim and his legs are weak, but the memories of his days on duty at Co Noi Intersection are still intact in his mind.
CCB HO NGOC TOAN, Dien Bien soldier "During the Dien Bien Campaign, at 5pm, we started marching to clear the route. If there was a traffic jam, how could there be a road for vehicles to pass? We had to fill in all the bomb craters for other vehicles to pass."
In the summer of 1973, Mr. Lu Quoc Quan was one of more than 12 thousand young men from Son La who joined the army with the enthusiasm of youth. Generations of young men like Mr. Quan at that time dedicated their most beautiful youth to the defense of the Fatherland.
CCB LU QUOC QUAN, Son La city “When entering the battlefield, he was a son of the Thai ethnic group in Son La, familiar with the forest terrain, and the commanders assigned him the task of leading the reconnaissance team. Scouts have many special characteristics. People often say that scouts go without traces, cook without smoke, go without noise, and have the secret of keeping secrets. Scouts often go first and come last because to prepare for a battle, scouts have to go many months in advance so that the superiors can make plans and make determination to fight.”
Having gone through two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, like many other localities, Son La has sent tens of thousands of its children off to defend the Fatherland. Many of them heroically sacrificed or left part of their bodies on the battlefield, returning home with unforgettable memories.
CCB NGUYEN DINH TU, Dien Bien soldier "Hard work, lack of food and water for a whole month, but the spirit was great, in the battle, shooting each other, we fell too, but on our side, no one retreated, whoever was a communist charged forward...".
CCB HO NGOC TOAN, Dien Bien soldier: “When we are working, if there is a death, the force will handle it. As for me, I will continue to do my main duty to ensure smooth traffic.”
The war is over, the heroes return to normal life, they are kind grandparents and neighbors around us, although their bodies are no longer intact, the years of youth on the battlefield are always years of pride for them.
CCB LU QUOC QUAN, Son La city "I was also a part of the young generation, at the age of 18 I joined the army to protect the fatherland. I would like to send to the younger generation to regularly cultivate revolutionary ethics, actively study to improve professional qualifications to contribute to building our country to be more and more prosperous and stable"
“My dear, the Country is our blood and bones/We must know how to bond and share/We must know how to transform into the shape of the country/To create the eternal Country...”
