According to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Geophysics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), on the morning of September 23, an earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province; no casualties or property damage were caused.

Specifically, the earthquake occurred at 7:54:54 ( Hanoi time) on September 23, with coordinates 14.866 degrees North latitude, 108.264 degrees East longitude, and a focal depth of about 8.1km. Disaster risk level 0.

Previously, on the morning of September 23, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 and a focal depth of about 8.1km also occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province; causing no casualties or property damage.

Earthquakes in Kon Plông district are considered by experts to be stimulated earthquakes; occurring frequently and continuously since 2021 until now.

Director of the Institute of Geophysics, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, said that Kon Tum province in general and Kon Plong district in particular belong to a small fault zone.

Earthquakes in this area have a magnitude of no more than 5.0. Although earthquakes in this area occur frequently, they are not at a risk warning level.

The Institute of Geophysics regularly informs the authorities and people in this area about earthquakes; at the same time, the Institute's staff continues to monitor and process data on earthquakes in Kon Plông district.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh recommends that when an earthquake occurs, people should hold on to a door frame or crawl under a table if they are in a building with a solid structure.

If outdoors, people should stay away from power lines and poles and move to open areas. If driving, people should try to pull over and stop./.
