On April 23, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ninh Thuan province informed about the progress of the implementation of two projects, Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 and No. 2, expected to be located in Thuan Nam district and Ninh Hai district.
Specifically, the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee has sent a document to the Ministry of Science and Technology requesting coordination in consultation and determining the safe distance between the factory construction area and residential areas as well as civil works in the affected area. When there is an official opinion from the Central and local agencies, it will be publicly announced so that people and businesses can understand.
The Provincial People's Committee also submitted to the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Council a resolution on a special mechanism for compensation, support and resettlement for households affected by the project.
The Resettlement Steering Committee has been established with specific assignments for each department, branch and locality. The Provincial Land Fund Development and Investment Project Management Board has also been assigned to coordinate with experts to adjust the planning of two resettlement areas, ensuring adequate technical infrastructure and living environment for the people.

In addition, the province has established a Steering Committee for resettlement of the project, assigned tasks to each department, branch, and locality, set specific timelines, and counted the number of affected people.
Accordingly, Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 (Phuoc Dinh Commune, Thuan Nam District) will affect 617 households with 2,910 people. The resettlement area is expected to be built on an area of 64.85 hectares, with a total cost of about 6,450 billion VND.
Nuclear Power Plant No. 2 (Vinh Hai Commune, Ninh Hai District) will affect 844 households with 2,319 people. The resettlement area is expected to be 54.4 hectares wide, with a cost of about 6,560 billion VND.
The National Assembly approved the investment policy for two nuclear power plants in Ninh Thuan in 2009. Plant No. 1 is planned in Vinh Truong village, Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district, with an area of 440 hectares; Plant No. 2 is in Thai An village, Vinh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district, with an area of about 380 hectares. The total designed capacity is 4,000 MW.
These two projects were suspended under the National Assembly Resolution at the end of 2016. By November 2024, the National Assembly agreed to continue implementing the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project.
