Ensure safe destination

Currently, a number of accommodation establishments and restaurants in Hoi An have proactively applied international standards on food safety and sustainable tourism . For example, Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort uses food with clear origins, organizes regular training for staff on food safety and applies technology to recycle organic waste into fertilizer.

At Caman Village vegetable garden (located within the Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort), visitors can enjoy Quang Nam 's specialties and directly experience the processing stages.

With the method of growing clean vegetables, Caman Village is both a place to experience agricultural tourism and a place to provide ingredients for meals at the Silk Sense resort.

Hoi An has also deployed a community monitoring team model on agricultural, forestry and fishery food safety in the area for the period 2024 - 2025. In addition to the task of propagating, disseminating and mobilizing people to comply with the provisions of the law on food safety, the monitoring team model also monitors, compiles statistics and updates information on the production and trading of agricultural, forestry and fishery food in the area; monitors compliance with the provisions of the law on food safety according to regulations.

A safe tourism environment, including food safety, is a necessary priority. In 2024, Quang Nam will tighten the inspection of the tourism environment, closely monitoring food safety and hygiene issues of businesses at tourist destinations.

In particular, Hoi An has organized to implement commitments between food businesses, raw material suppliers, restaurants and eateries at tourist destinations, aiming to create a safe tourism environment.

Ms. Le Thi Hong Cam - Head of the Quang Nam Food Safety and Hygiene Department said that during the Food Safety Action Month (April 15 - May 15), the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety organized many inspection teams to inspect food production, trading and processing establishments. In Hoi An, the inspection results at restaurants, hotels and business establishments showed that most of them met the food safety criteria according to the law.

Control the entire supply chain

The plan to implement food safety and security work in 2025 with synchronous and drastic solutions has just been issued by the Provincial People's Committee.

According to the plan, the province's biggest goal in 2025 is to strictly control the entire food supply chain - from production, preliminary processing, processing to circulation and consumption.

In particular, the provincial food poisoning rate must be below 6 people/100,000 people, and food production and trading establishments must meet 90% of food safety conditions. The province also expects 99% of agricultural, forestry and fishery food samples to meet safety requirements.

Expanding surprise inspections and post-inspections of food production and processing establishments, especially mobile cooking services, collective kitchens, spontaneous markets and street food - places with high potential risks, is required.

Currently, the Provincial People's Committee requires the provincial authorities to publicly disclose the identities of violating establishments on the media. Fraudulent acts regarding food origin, use of unlicensed chemicals and additives, and production of counterfeit goods will be strictly handled.

At the same time, the health sector strengthens the food poisoning monitoring system at all levels; enhances food contamination monitoring activities at restaurants, ready-to-eat food processing facilities, collective kitchens in industrial parks, schools, especially collective kitchens in kindergartens and primary schools...

Industries must seriously and regularly take samples to monitor the risk of food contamination; closely monitor street food establishments, paying special attention to mobile cooking service establishments.

In addition, production and business establishments are encouraged to apply VietGAP and HACCP standards, develop food safety market models, safe food chains, and connect with clean distribution systems throughout the province. Hotlines and contact points for receiving information on food safety violations will also be widely announced. People are encouraged to report violations and will be protected and rewarded accordingly.

Quang Nam is currently conducting inspections and checks of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and functional food businesses in response to a series of cases of fake milk, fake food, and fake medicine production. The representative of the Health Department's inspection said that because the businesses selling these items in Quang Nam are mainly agents, not production sites, violations are rarely detected.
