On the Ministry of Foreign Affairs side, there was Ms. Le Thi Hong Van, Acting Director, Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, along with representatives from Hanoi, Quang Ninh and units under the Ministry.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong received Director of the World Heritage Center Lazare Eloundou Assomo
Sending greetings to Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo on his second visit and work in Vietnam, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized the importance of this working session for the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister mentioned 5 cases of relics in Vietnam that are in the process of researching, preserving and completing dossiers to submit to UNESCO.
The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo would contribute his opinions to complete the dossier, fully meet the regulations and recommendations, and at the same time update on the latest issues in preserving cultural heritage in the world.
Thanking the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the warm welcome, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo emphasized that the relationship between the two sides in recent times has achieved many successes, not only demonstrated by the support of the Vietnamese Government for UNESCO, but also the attention and support between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the UNESCO Representative Office in Vietnam.
Overview of the working session
Not only is Vietnam an active member of UNESCO, it also has the right directions and approaches in preserving and promoting heritage values when aiming towards the principle of sustainable development, in which the beneficiary is the community.
Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo expressed his hope that Vietnam will share its experiences, examples and models in prioritizing heritage conservation with other countries to contribute to developing approaches to help improve heritage assessment.
Regarding the cases mentioned by Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo said that early preparations are needed to meet conditions such as planning, management strategies, tourism, balancing between factors, etc. In addition, it is also necessary to pay attention to updating new developments decided by the World Heritage Committee.
Reviewing the official visit of General Secretary To Lam to UNESCO Headquarters in October 2024, the Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam has always been a proactive and active member at UNESCO.
Agreeing with Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo's opinion on the preparation roadmap, the Deputy Minister expressed his belief that the upcoming working sessions between the two sides will achieve positive results, and hoped that UNESCO would continue to support research experts and Vietnam in the process of supplementing and completing dossiers for the relics.
