Hue receives 2 dresses of the last Queen Mother of the Nguyen Dynasty

VHO - On the morning of May 20, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center received two robes of Lady Tu Cung - the last Queen Mother of the Nguyen Dynasty. The artifacts were transferred from the United States to Vietnam.

The two shirts were donated by Mrs. Cong Ton Nu Kim Chi, granddaughter of An Phuoc District King Hong Kien - one of the members of the Nguyen Dynasty Royal Family.

Ms. Kim Chi confirmed that the two shirts that she has kept for a long time are the regular clothes that belonged to Lady Tu Cung, mother of King Bao Dai. Lady Tu Cung, also known as Doan Huy Hoang Thai Hau, was the last Queen Mother of the Nguyen Dynasty.

In the 1960s, Madame Tu Cung gave these two shirts to a Vietnamese woman (of French origin) as a souvenir, who was Mrs. Kim Chi's adopted sister.

Then, in 1963, this woman returned to France and brought 2 shirts with her. In 1995, this person returned these 2 artifacts to Ms. Kim Chi who was living in the United States.

"With the wish to return this precious artifact to Hue - the homeland of Our Lady of the Palace, I hereby authorize Mr. Pham Xuan Cuong to return the two shirts to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center" - Ms. Cong Ton Nu Kim Chi wrote the authorization.

At the reception of the artifacts, Mr. Hoang Viet Trung - Director of Hue Monuments Conservation Center expressed his thanks to Ms. Cong Ton Nu Kim Chi for donating the artifacts, and thanked Mr. Pham Xuan Cuong for transporting and handing them over to the unit.

The leaders of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center pledged that the artifacts will be displayed and carefully preserved at the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum.

Mr. Pham Xuan Cuong, residing in Ho Chi Minh City, authorized by Mrs. Cong Ton Nu Kim Chi, is also a relative of the Nguyen Dynasty Royal Family. Mr. Cuong is the grandson of the ninth-rank mandarin Buu Di, a descendant of Tho Xuan Vuong Mien Dinh.

Sharing at the artifact handover ceremony, Mr. Pham Xuan Cuong expressed his emotion and confidence when the artifacts of the ancient Nguyen Dynasty were donated to the appropriate place and hoped that many other artifacts would continue to "return" to Hue.

Mr. Hoang Viet Trung said that recently, the attention of many units and individuals has contributed to the repatriation of valuable antiques and artifacts of the Nguyen Dynasty back to the ancient capital of Hue. Thereby, contributing to the preservation, preservation of culture and promotion of values, spreading to the community and tourists.

The two dresses donated by Mrs. Cong Ton Nu Kim Chi are the regular dresses of the Empress Dowager Tu Cung. They include: a red silk dress with royal patterns, with cuffs, original material; a silk dress with brocade, showing signs of wear and missing buttons.

According to the leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, this is a rare document with valuable costumes - culture - history associated with the Nguyen Dynasty; reflecting the aesthetic value and royal life in modern times.

The Center commits to receiving, preserving and promoting the value of artifacts in accordance with its functions and legal regulations.

Immediately after receiving, the two shirts were displayed at the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum to introduce to the public. The expected display time is nearly a month.
