Lam Dong province suffered approximately 10 billion VND in damage due to heavy rain and flooding on the afternoon of September 5th.

On September 6th, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province reported that on September 5th, several localities in the province were affected and damaged by heavy rain, causing floods, with estimated losses of 10 billion VND. The most severely affected areas were Hiep Thanh and Ham Thuan.

Accordingly, heavy rain in Ham Thuan commune caused severe flooding in Ku Ke village, damaging 4 refrigerators and 12 motorbikes; in Hiep Thanh commune, 10 houses were flooded; and in Xuan Huong ward, Da Lat, a landslide occurred on the slope of An Binh road, affecting part of the structure of houses belonging to 3 households.

In Hiep Thanh commune, heavy rains have flooded crops over an area of ​​approximately 127 hectares, affecting 50 to 100% of plants such as gladiolus, tomatoes, and various vegetables and legumes. Specifically, Dinh An village accounts for 60 hectares, K' Long village 32 hectares, K' Ren village 20 hectares, and Tan An village 15 hectares.

In Ham Thuan commune, heavy rains have flooded crops in low-lying areas near rivers and streams across four villages, covering an area of ​​approximately 535 hectares. This includes: Village 1 (formerly Thuan Minh) with 100 hectares of rice flooded; Village 2 (formerly Thuan Minh) with 250 hectares of rice flooded; Ke Ke village with 20 hectares of rice and 15 hectares of other crops flooded, and 96 bags of rice washed away; and Doc Lang village with 150 hectares of rice flooded.

Regarding infrastructure, transportation, and urban areas, the heavy rains and floods in Hiep Thanh commune caused damage at several locations. Specifically, at Dinh An Kindergarten, the schoolyard was flooded with about 0.5 meters of water, causing mud and soil to accumulate; in Phu Thanh village, the bridge at Group 30 suffered erosion, posing a risk of collapse. The bridge is 20 meters long and 3 meters wide, and the local authorities are currently assessing the damage.

Additionally, a landslide in Bac Hoi village obstructed traffic on National Highway 27, affecting an area of ​​approximately 30 . The road management unit has completed landslide remediation, and traffic has resumed. A landslide in K'ren village (near Ta Hoet Lake) affected internal roads in the area, affecting an area of ​​approximately 40 . Currently, the local authorities are actively working to mitigate the landslide and expect to complete the work by September 6th.

In Ham Thuan commune, a 50-meter section of concrete embankment collapsed in Ku Ke village.

The total estimated damage in the localities is approximately 10 billion VND, with Hiep Thanh commune estimated at around 7 billion VND and Ham Thuan commune at around 3 billion VND.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, local authorities have directed the commune's Civil Defense Command, relevant departments and units, and village self-governing boards to proactively implement the "four on-the-spot" measures to quickly mitigate the consequences of natural disasters in their areas, erect warning signs, and set up barriers in dangerous areas. They must absolutely not be negligent or complacent, and must closely monitor natural disaster and weather warnings and forecasts to regularly inform and guide the people to proactively prevent and minimize damage caused by adverse weather phenomena, especially subsidence and landslides.

On the other hand, the organization mobilized the people and local forces to clear bushes and unblock waterways to minimize localized flooding. They also reviewed and compiled statistics on damage to provide timely assistance or propose assistance for affected people, helping them quickly stabilize their lives and implement safety measures during the rainy season and floods as prescribed.

In Hiep Thanh commune alone, the provincial police force, in coordination with the Hiep Thanh Commune Civil Defense Command, evacuated 10 households isolated by floodwaters to safety. In Xuan Huong ward, Da Lat, the ward and local residents are working together to mitigate the damage.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment requests all localities to continue maintaining a 24/7 duty roster, closely monitoring the weather situation and developments in the area; proactively notifying and warning local authorities and people in a timely manner to prevent and avoid potential damage.

Simultaneously, they promptly compiled information on the impact and damage, and urged and guided localities in disaster prevention, mitigation, and recovery efforts. Affected localities continued to review and report on the specific impact and damage in their areas, and provided support to people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters as prescribed.

According to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, on the evening of September 5th, moderate to heavy rain caused flooding, reaching near alert level III on the Cam Ly River at the Thanh Binh station. Rainfall measured in the afternoon and evening of September 5th in several areas included: Xuan Huong Ward – Da Lat 86 mm, Xuan Truong Ward – Da Lat 82 mm, Cam Ly Ward – Da Lat 68 mm, D'ran Commune 110 mm, Phuc Tho Commune – Lam Ha 50 mm, Tan Ha Commune – Lam Ha 12 mm…
