Lamine Yamal signs 'Golden Ball' contract with Barca

Barca keeps Lamine Yamal until 2031 with a "Golden Ball" contract, with a salary of 15 million euros.

Barca's urgency to keep Yamal stems from the fear that PSG will steal the gem of La Masia.

On July 19, 2023, before leaving for the US tour, Barcelona - led by Xavi Hernandez - signed Yamal to a contract worth around 1.6 million euros per year, until he turns 18 (July 13).

As Yamal was a minor at the time, the contract could not exceed three years and would automatically extend for another three years until 2029. However, the salary after the age of 18 is only 5 million euros per season.

Barca were in a hurry to keep Yamal because PSG kept approaching him and making attractive offers.

Some club leaders even believe that selling Yamal will help solve the debt: “With that money, we can pay off a lot of debts . ”

However, both Xavi Hernandez, Jordi Cruyff (currently an advisor to the Indonesian national team) and Joan Laporta were determined to keep Yamal.

Nearly two years later, in May 2025, Lamine Yamal emerged as one of the world's top stars and a strong candidate for the Ballon d'Or award .

This forced Barca to rush to renew the contract once again. "Of course Lamine Yamal will renew. He will be the Ballon d'Or, for sure" , Jorge Mendes declared a few days ago.

According to the agreement reached by the parties on Tuesday, the new contract, effective from July 13, will no longer be 5 million euros, but triple this figure: 15 million euros per season.

Including performance bonuses, Yamal's earnings could reach 20 million euros.

Barca are putting all their faith in Lamine Yamal, just like Lionel Messi before him. He will become the new symbol, wearing the number 10 shirt after Ansu Fati leaves the team (preparing to go to Monaco).
