For a green Vietnam
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai said that nearly a year ago, in November 2022, with the presence of the Crown Prince of Denmark and the leaders of the Vietnamese Government, the LEGO Group held a groundbreaking ceremony to start construction of the second largest toy factory in Asia and the sixth largest in the world in Binh Duong, worth more than 1 billion USD, which will create 4,000 new jobs in Vietnam.
Not only is it large in scale, it is also LEGO's first carbon neutral factory in the world according to international standards, producing in a green, environmentally friendly direction, in line with the trend of green and sustainable development in the world, while demonstrating LEGO's strong determination to accompany the Vietnamese Government in implementing socio -economic development goals and protecting the environment and ecology.
The Deputy Prime Minister shared: "Planting trees and afforestation" has been a fine tradition of the Vietnamese people since President Ho Chi Minh initiated the Tet tree planting movement in 1959.

Many programs implemented by the Party, State and Government in recent years such as the "Greening of barren hills and land program", "1 million tree planting program" or recently the "Planting 1 billion trees" project for the period 2021-2025 have been actively responded to and effectively promoted by organizations, businesses and individuals, helping to maintain and increase forest cover from 28% in 1990 to 42% in 2022, practically contributing to efforts to protect the environment, biodiversity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and effectively respond to climate change in Vietnam.
For Binh Duong, in recent times, the province has actively implemented the Project "For a Green Vietnam", encouraging investors and businesses to contribute part of their responsibility to greening industrial parks, production and business areas, demonstrating the harmony of interests and responsibilities between investors, localities and people in socio-economic development and environmental protection.
In that spirit, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai highly appreciated the LEGO Group for actively responding to the movement of Binh Duong province and setting a goal of replanting 50,000 trees in 2022-2023 to replace the trees cleared to create space for projects.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, along with the use of renewable energy in production, opening up a green investment trend in Vietnam, the LEGO Group's tree planting campaign in Binh Duong demonstrates the sustainable development mindset and social responsibility of a leading Danish enterprise, which has very practical meaning, creating a vibrant landscape, a healthy working environment for the industrial park, contributing to protecting the ecosystem and health of local people in the surrounding area.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai believes that LEGO's dedication and spirit will continue to spread and inspire many other businesses to participate in protecting and developing our natural environment.

Promoting cooperation in green transformation and circular economy development
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai said that in 2011, Vietnam and Denmark established a Strategic Partnership on Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Green Growth, laying the foundation for effective cooperation between the two countries in these fields with many specific and practical programs and projects.
Building on the existing effective cooperation, the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Denmark are aiming to establish a Green Strategic Partnership to bring new impetus to promote cooperation on green transformation and circular economy development in each country.
This spirit of cooperation is also consistent with the policy of the Party and State of Vietnam on sustainable development, especially in the context that Vietnam has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, demonstrating Vietnam's determination to cooperate with the international community to address global challenges in combating climate change.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai expressed his belief that Danish businesses, including LEGO, will take advantage of the opportunities that the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership will bring in investment and business in Vietnam.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed: With the motto "Your success is our success", the Vietnamese Government as well as Binh Duong province will always accompany and create favorable conditions for LEGO to effectively implement the project and achieve the set goals.

* The LEGO factory in Vietnam is designed to be the Group's most sustainable factory ever, contributing to the realization of the Group's sustainability goals including reducing global carbon emissions by 37% by 2032.
The factory will have rooftop solar panels and a solar farm will be built on adjacent land to meet annual energy needs. The factory will use the most advanced energy-efficient manufacturing equipment, and the buildings and manufacturing processes will be designed to minimize energy use.
The LEGO Group has always set a goal of minimizing its environmental impact. To achieve this, the Group has completed the planting of 50,000 trees at the factory site after the start of operations in September 2022. The number of new trees planted is twice the number of trees that were removed to build the factory. The project has planted seven different species of trees native to Vietnam, to promote biodiversity in the long term.
