Spread kindness

Without being noisy or ostentatious, many young people have been showing kindness and social responsibility in their own way.

Duong Thuy Dung (28 years old, living in Da Lat city) has donated her hair 5 times to the hair library of the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network - a member of the International Union for Cancer Control.

Community Service

At the age of 18, Thuy Dung discovered that she was not eligible to donate blood because she carried the "Thalassemia" gene that causes congenital hemolytic anemia. However, her desire to serve the community always burned. Unable to participate in humanitarian blood donation, Thuy Dung chose to donate her hair. Every 2 years, she donates her long, carefully groomed hair to cancer patients.

Kim Ngan considers blood donation the most practical way to serve the community.

Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang (23 years old, former student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law) donated her hair for the first time. Having had silky black hair for more than 10 years, Thuy Trang was a bit hesitant. But with the encouragement of her relatives, she donated her beloved hair to help patients become more confident, optimistic and motivated to continue fighting the disease. She is proud of her meaningful work and cherishes plans to participate in more volunteer activities in the future: "Fortunately, good deeds do not require wealth or any special conditions, just long enough hair and a heart ready to give" - Trang said.

After registering to donate organs and tissues, Thuy Dung is filled with more positive energy and a sense of healthy living.

Having witnessed her relatives having to shave their heads due to brain surgery and becoming self-conscious, Doan Thi Kim Ngan (31 years old, from Quy Nhon) donated her long hair to the hair library. This is her way of sending love and accompanying patients who are going through difficult treatment. Ngan believes: "Every young person has a loving heart waiting to beat together. Nurture it through good deeds, no matter how small, don't be afraid to show concern and help others when possible."

Small things, big meaning

Duong Thuy Dung believes that her giving is very simple and sometimes there is no need to seek recognition. As long as there is a spirit of willingness to give, without seeking benefits, everyone can do useful things. After many years of tirelessly donating hair, Thuy Dung also decided to donate tissues and organs. She went to the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center ( Hanoi ) to complete the registration procedure naturally and quickly. Dung comfortably shared and sincerely encouraged those around her to register right after that. As a content creator on social networks, yoga instructor and book author with the pen name Lan, Thuy Dung has a rich observation of life. She increasingly focuses on a healthy diet and lifestyle. "Keeping yourself healthy, we can fully enjoy a truly happy life. Moreover, if something happens tomorrow, my body is still healthy enough to help someone when needed" - she confided.

Thuy Trang aspires to contribute her youth to useful things.

Throughout her journey of growing her hair to meet the donation criteria, Kim Ngan has always received support from many people, even becoming a source of inspiration for many friends to follow suit. What makes Ngan touched is that more and more people are willing to participate in these activities, from volunteers to hair salons everywhere, everyone is sincere, enthusiastic, and excited for the common goal. "No matter how small a kindness is, it is never wasted" - Ngan shared. The 9x girl always devotes a lot of enthusiasm to other social activities: participating in the Pink Run (an annual fundraising activity of the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network) and donating blood many times.

According to Kim Ngan, the young generation nurtures kindness through their daily lifestyle and style. There is no need to wait until we have the means to start donating things of great material value; we can give from the things closest to us. "A strand of hair, drops of blood, or a tissue or organ donation registration card. All have valuable meanings in the journey of joining hands to develop an increasingly humane and compassionate society," she confided.

Summer is often the time when blood donation shortages occur. Part of the reason is because students (who make up a large proportion of the voluntary blood donor force) enter summer vacation. On the other hand, summer is often the time when medical examination and treatment activities increase, and the demand for blood increases. To reduce the pressure on medical facilities when blood reserves decrease sharply, campaigns such as "Red Journey" and "Summer of Charity" have been widely deployed. Thereby, attracting the community, especially young people, to participate in blood donation, ensuring a stable blood supply for treatment.
