Consequences of everyone being able to sell online Opening of the 2023 Festival to Preserve and Develop Vietnamese Craft Villages |
With about 300 households participating in production and business, Van Phuc ( Hanoi ) is one of the most famous traditional silk weaving villages in the country. Mr. Pham Khac Ha, Chairman of Van Phuc Silk Weaving Association said: In addition to on-site business activities, the craft village has proactively shifted to e-commerce business and organized online group sales models.
Accordingly, some production facilities such as Lan Son silk, Phuong silk, Phuc Hung, Phong Thu silk... set up sales groups on social networks connecting more than 100 households specializing in supplying raw materials, production and trading. From this group, members proactively find sources of raw materials and introduce products produced by the facility itself. With the data in the group, the specialized trading facilities will focus on advertising and connecting with buyers in need. Business households also take advantage of technology platforms to consult and sell online.
Handicraft villages "catch the trend" of selling online |
“ In addition, Van Phuc craft village also actively brings its products to e-commerce platforms. All products are labeled “Van Phuc Silk”, which is exclusively protected to Vietnamese and international consumers, ” said Mr. Pham Khac Ha.
Or with Giang Cao ceramic craft village (Hanoi), Mr. Dang Dinh Tuc, Head of the village's representative board, said: Online sales account for about 26% of the consumption channel structure.
The village's products are being introduced, promoted and marketed by businesses, business households, and manufacturers on electronic applications, e-commerce trading floors, and sales sites such as Shopee, Lazada, etc.
However, Mr. Dang Dinh Tuc also pointed out: On online consumption channels, the competitiveness of craft village products is still weak compared to similar products from other countries. The reason is that Giang Cao's products are slow to innovate in design, lack creativity, lack commerciality, and are difficult to mass produce. The creation of product designs is mostly spontaneous, there is no centralized facility for artisans and skilled workers to create and design designs. There is a lack of connection between craft villages and research institutes, universities, and experts in the handicraft industry.
“ The current trend in ceramic production is to change designs very quickly, so product promotion and introduction must be updated and adapted, ” said Mr. Dang Dinh Tuc.
In fact, online sales are being "followed by the trend" by production facilities and businesses in craft villages, but most of them are being done spontaneously, the sellers do not have the skills, do not have a suitable business strategy. Therefore, it takes a lot of time to reach customers, and the efficiency is not high.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the Center for Science, Technology and Craft Village Development, to sell online effectively, craft villages need appropriate approaches and methods of online sales.
Accordingly, when it comes to choosing products to sell online, there are three ways that most sellers source products: DIY, wholesale, and drop shipping. Each method has its own benefits and limitations. Whichever method you choose, when thinking about how to sell a product online, look for products that we can capture value, have standards, and meet the needs of the market.
Sellers also need to identify the target market for the product, because the market for online sales is large but fiercely competitive, the best way is to develop a niche market and ensure feasibility. To find a niche market, craft villagers can use some tools such as: Look up trends on Google, join social media groups and online communities related to the market, check the competition of the product, use tools to check the size of the niche market.
In addition, production establishments and craft village businesses need to conduct market research; identify brands for online business products; build and develop an online store; establish payment, shipping and communication processes; and continue to adjust their approach to improve business efficiency.
“ All of the above must be in place before we start marketing our products and must be done step by step. Businesses and production facilities can constantly change and adjust their approach. The important thing is to take the first step to create momentum for their future business goals ,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong emphasized.
