On the afternoon of September 11, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and his delegation left for Lang Son to inspect and direct the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of floods caused by the circulation of storm No. 3.
Reporting on the preliminary flood situation in the area, Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Ho Tien Thieu said that floodwaters rose rapidly, and many places in districts of Lang Son province were flooded. As of 5:00 p.m. on September 10, the whole province had 3 deaths, 10 injuries; 9,604 households suffered damage to their houses; over 7,454 hectares of agricultural land and 4,548 hectares of forestry land were severely affected.
Regarding traffic, National Highway 43 at locations such as National Highway 1B, National Highway 4A, National Highway 279, and National Highway 3B has been cleared due to fallen trees; some major flooding points have affected traffic and landslides.
In addition, 75 flooded locations, over 193 landslide locations, and many locations with fallen trees on the road have been cleared.
Heavy rain also caused localized flooding and isolated a total of 1,383 locations in districts and cities.
Preliminary estimates of total damage caused by storm No. 3 in Lang Son province are over 560 billion VND.
Immediately after the storm, the Provincial People's Committee and the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue directed districts and cities to mobilize military, police, militia and people forces with the motto "4 on-site", supporting households with deceased people and damaged households to overcome the consequences; evacuating people and property of households affected by landslides or at risk of landslides to safe places.
Up to now, units of cadres, soldiers, militia, civil servants, public employees, and people have joined hands to support and evacuate over 4,455 households from areas at risk of landslides and unsafe conditions. In general, the situation in the province is under control.
Speaking on behalf of the Government, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son shared the difficulties of the province and expressed condolences to families affected by storms and floods, and those whose relatives were killed or injured.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee for seriously implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and central ministries and branches on overcoming the consequences of natural disasters caused by storm No. 3.
"Forces across the province have been proactive, active, and determined in overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and floods and landslides, especially evacuating people out of dangerous areas," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Along with that, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son requested the province to continue to pay attention, focus on directing and implementing the work of handling incidents, especially ensuring traffic routes, not letting people lack electricity or water, and creating the fastest possible conditions for students to go to school.
Immediately after a quick meeting with the People's Committee of Lang Son province, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son inspected and directly directed the response and recovery work of floods in Van Lang and Trang Dinh districts, Lang Son province.
